I started an online community focusing on a specific niche. i have been working on SEO and bookmarking like crazy and ppl are finally going to my site and registering. the problem is they sign up (maybe for the free ebook i offer) but then most hardly come back. how do i get them to come again? there's forums, polls, blogs, video, basically everything a social network has. where do i focus? do i hire some off-shore ppl to be active on the site?

i blog almost every day and invite comments but no one comments. do i write on their walls? how do i encourage them to invite other ppl?

any advice would be greatly appreciated. =)

Register some fake usernames and post comments to your blog entries yourself. Have the fake users have a conversation amongst themselves. Post controversial posts/discussions.
Offer a prize (better avatar, more pm storage) for the best post in a week. Send out email newsletter to members, encourage them to come back. Give them a great reason to come back and contribute. Communities are notoriously difficult to get off the ground. It takes a lot of work.
When they do take off they can then become very difficult to control! gl.

    Grow Traffic and Active Users

People talk about things that are different and interesting. Game mechanics create something worth discussing and engaging with.
    Increase Website Activity and Stickiness

Whenever there are points, rewards or status involved, people are going to pay attention. Sometimes it may seem silly, but providing simple incentives can go a long way towards creating an active environment.
Cheaper Than a Traditional Loyalty Program

Adding game mechanics to your website is often less expensive to implement and run than developing a full-fledged loyalty program. The system is automatic: it runs itself and minimizes administration costs.
On top of all that, why give out cash or prizes when most users are happy with virtual rewards?
    Improve User Satisfaction

Let's be honest, some websites are just plain boring. Games, competition and rewards provide an added edge which keep people interested.
It's also good, positive marketing. Most people relate better to companies who aren't all "business". Fun and games expose your human side and even create trust.
All of these things, traffic growth, increased activity, reduced expenses and improved satisfaction lead to one thing: more revenue

Best thing is to tempt people to comment for rewards that are related to your niche. I've observed legit comments in some sites.
Once you've little activity you'd automatically have others trying to join conversations.

If your site is really new than maybe all you need to do is wait a bit? The longer it's active the more people should join, and then eventually you'll get comments. Or maybe you could just try to entice people with more prizes, haha!

The truth is that all you need is an interesting site with autoapproved comments.
It sounds shallow.. But it's not, this is how it's done.

You may have spam problems.. But find a way around it if you are really into a community - People like to see their comments after they post.

Just look at the salty droid.

Make your website exciting which can grad user on to your website. You need to do some interactive activity on your social networking website. Creating some fake ID's specially of girl and using them for activity, it's always works. Comment on post your user has posted ... or simply you can comment on their wall...Send them request. Try it and I am sure u will succeed.
