According to google webmaster tools, it takes my autoblog 7.3 seconds to load, which is unacceptable and explains the high bounce rate despite the high organic traffic it gets.

I have installed a WP cache plugin, I have a very basic theme that I use. I don't know what the problem is, maybe it's the fact that the site has over 10k pages? The thing is, I hardly have any links on the pages (i.e. the pages do not link to one another).

I use hostgator baby plan, could that be the problem?

I have another site that loads in less than 2 seconds but it's a much smaller site, although the theme I use is more complex.

    Any help is appreciated.

Yes, more than likely the hosting is causing a problem, give a VPS a try.

Your other website is on the same server? It's likely that there is someone abusing the server if it's shared hosting. If both sites are on the same server, check your plugins and compare both. Maybe a plugin is causing the issue.

Yes both sites are on the same server.

There were a couple of bloated log files that I found when I scanned files through FTP, and when I got rid of them nothing really improved all that much. The plugins I use are pretty basic so they shouldn't be causing much problem. When I removed StatPress my load time actually went down from 11 seconds.

Does the volume of pages have anything to do with it, or nothing at all?

A bit off topic but how do you plan on reducing the bounce rate if you don't link to other pages of your site? The bounce rate measures how many pages were accessed one after another by the same user during the same visit, not how long he stayed on a page.

I do provide some links, just not links to the other 10k pages obviously. I have category links that I provide.

You're right, the bounce rate is not that telling, but the fact that the average user stays on the site for only 17 seconds probably does.

Ah ok. Well I don't think that volume should be relevant to the loading time of an individual page if nothing is fetched from other pages. HG's customer support is very commited, although pretty clueless on the lower levels but they could possibly pinpoint the reason eventually.

    Here are some advices:
-buy a better hosting plan (VPS or dedicated, if you have tons of traffic)
-do not use WP plugins that can affect the load time (remove all unnecessary plugins from WP)
-use small images (jpg, gif and not png, bmp)
-avoid linking images from other websites

    Hope it helps.
