Finding out that your blog or web post is not increasing its traffic is quite frustrating. Some people tend to use unorthodox methods like black hat SEO practices. However, this is dangerous because the search engines want bloggers, web developers and content creators to use White hat SEO practices to optimise their blogs and websites.

Here we are going to talk about how you can improve your rank on search engines even when there is already tones and tones of competition. The major trick here is to balance what search engines require of you and still at the same time entice your customers.

Incorporate The Latest Google Algorithm Updates

Most people currently browse Google via their phones. Google has noticed this and helps rank websites that have a favourable mobile version. A good mobile version ensures that the load time to access a webpage is short. In fact, Google has announced that it will in future penalise those websites that do not comply and produce a mobile version of their websites. Wordpress as one of the major places people are turning to web development, using the WPtouch WordPress plugin will enhance the mobile user experience for your web-post.

Currently, Google ranking is carefully looking at indexing procedures that bloggers and web developers are using. More precisely, Google is looking at the links that one is using. This is because links are the biggest way that black hat SEO is taking its toll. Currently, private blog networks are being de-indexed. Fake links are being penalized in a huge way.

However, on the other hand, quality links will make your blog or web content rank highly in Google. The thing that one should mainly take into consideration is that the links that you put on your website are relevant to your content. The links must also connect to another website that talks about the same. More to that when placing links you should avoid overstuffing them as this might make you penalized.

If you want to get the most recent Google algorithm updates is by visiting the webmaster guidelines. There are also databases on the web that will help arrange the guidelines in a chronological order such that one is able to understand when the changes happened.

Make Your Site Move Fast

Despite you following all the onsite SEO techniques, speed is the number one check tool for Google ranking your site. It does not matter how huge your website is. There are several huge e-commerce sites that have lowered their ranking because of increasing the load time of the site e.g. Walmart. It was highly penalized for increasing its load time from 1 second to 4 seconds. The mighty Google was once a victim of the same and lost 20% of their revenue before they realized that loading time is a key tool for website high ranking and profitable performance.

Frankly speaking, if you search a website and when you click on it it takes 3 sec to open, you will basically abandon the site. Slow sites lose about half of their traffic to competitor websites and hence lead to a low Google ranking.

One of the major ways in which you can reduce the load time for your site is reducing the HTTP size. A bigger HTTPS means more load time for your site.

The other way that you can speed up your site loading is by minimizing the number of files. You can minimize the number of files that you are using in a number of ways.

One way you can do it to remove irrelevant files on your site. The second way that you can reduce the number of files is by combining a number of files to form one. You also reduce the number of files that the code or program to make the site is. The procedures for programming can be reduced by writing smaller codes used in the latest programming. One such example is the code for background colour. Before it was usually very long but currently you can write the code for background colour using one line. In fact, the word background colour has been reduced to bgcolor.

Creating A Suitable and Creative Metadata

Metadata is data that helps to describe the content on your page. Between the header tags, there is usually a place to input your metadata. Metadata are named according to what data you are describing. You can have a keyword metadata or a descriptive metadata. Metadata is usually placed after the header tags. A well-written metadata description will obviously bring the relevant data to your site. In fact, metadata is what people mainly look when they are searching on the web.

A good metadata meets the expectation needed and uses simple language that everyone can understand.

Relevant Content

The other very important that will make your site is to write a niche that is relevant to peoples needs. There are a variety of tools that you can use to know what niche you need to write on. If you use ad words Google service or other many SEO services on the internet you are likely to know what keywords most people search for on the internet. You are also able to know the geographical location where most keywords are used. If I take a niche talking about how to cook sushi majority of the traffic will come from Asia and the rest will come from the west. From different niches, you are able to know what are their other needs and fulfill them.

Correct Penalized Pages or Traits

If you have been receiving consistent traffic and then your search sudden reduce you need to check where you are going wrong. There are a variety of websites that are going to show you impending dangers that might make you penalized. There is the website penalty indicator tool. What you only have to do is to go and type your website URL and all your mistakes are bound to be displayed.

There are numerous blog posts and websites that have ranked very lowly due to backlinks. Backlinks are very hard to remove. One way of removing them is by contacting the owner of the link where your link is placed. When that fails you can ask search engines to avoid considering links on your websites since you do not need them. Currently, Google guidelines require links in your website to be completely natural.

Finally, good threads started popping up on BHW again. Thanks for the guide.

Sorry, but threads like this one confuse rather than help.

There are great guides on the forum already about most aspects of writing and promoting a website.

I don't disagree, for example, that larger file sizes take longer to load, or that files that are encrypted take longer to transfer. But "A bigger HTTPS means more load time for your site" doesn't make sense. If you were a beginner and went away to look for more information about HTTPS sizes, you'd just be more confused.

If the aim is to educate, the information needs to be accurate.

"speed is the number one check tool for Google ranking your site"

Really? I think that's a load of crap.
Speed doesn't really matter till you're on page 1.

But speed has a lot of advantages:
  • Helps in better crawl rate (I would take 200ms crawl rate rather than 1000+)
  • Lower bounce rate ( UX stuff), which matters not as long as you're on page 1 though.

- exactly, and if the your site speed is low constantly ; then you may loose your Page 1 Position too.
So, dont ignore this matter

This info is inadequate and really basic :l

PS: https with http/2 tech helps a lot. If your site speed is over 2.5 sec, it's best to amp it.

If it's under 2.5 sec, you're fine.

I have seen more conversions with https sites, so I would really really recommend it.

For example.

You said >>If you want to get the most recent Google algorithm updates is by visiting the webmaster guidelines. There are also databases on the web that will help arrange the guidelines in a chronological order such that one is able to understand when the changes happened.<<

Panguin Tool - Connects to your Google Console/Analytics and is excellent at matching Google updates to drops or raises in your traffic. Helpful information as to what each update is targeting (mixture of Google confirmations and best guess). Great for analysing client and personal sites alike.

The above tools let you check the speed of any page on your site and provide comparisons to average load times of other sites to give you an idea of how you are performing. They also provide detailed information of how to improve performance and thus reduce load time.

Wordpress Caching Plugins

I use Wordpress personally for my sites and WP Rocket is an excellent plugin to reduce page size and load time. Others include, W3 Total Cache and WP Super Cache. WP Rocket is a Paid plugin whereas the other 2 can be used for free.

You said >>A good metadata meets the expectation needed and uses simple language that everyone can understand.<<

Other than page title and description, this really is fairly pointless in terms of ranking factors for Google. But it does make a difference for converting clicks in search results, a good title and description will make your page stand out from the crowd.

Everyone has a personal preference but it is a good idea to check potential KW's across several tools before making a decision. Most will give slightly different metrics to the other, so take an average and make sure to look at the Google top 10 search results to ascertain at the actual competition you have to beat and true difficulty.
Dedicated Tools

KWfinder
Ahrefs
Long Tail Pro

Long Tail Pro has a free 7 day trial, KWfinder can be used for 5 free searches per day and Ahrefs has a $7, 7 day trial.

Chrome Extension (Free)

Lastly, the Chrome browser extension Keywords Everywhere is an excellent free tool to get KW difficulty and search volumes whilst searching in Google. Free to use and whilst not perfect, provides a good guide.

Personally, I prefer to target only Easy or Super Easy keywords when starting a new niche or site, build up some traffic and then go after the medium to hard keywords when your site has built up authority and LOTS of quality content. But that is my preference.
