I have studied these forums and searched the internet far and wide to learn about seo. It's not getting me a job doing it!

My biggest problem is that I have very little experience because I dont even have any websites to work with.

Are there intern opportunities available with seo companies?

I would like to hear stories of your success and struggles that you may have had getting into this field.

a good program that is all about seo and being an seo expert is the nitro marketing local business money machine..... its obviously mainly targetged towards your local market.. since theres less competition..

u need to get a portfolio together, so either do some free / cheap seo on friends sites or just seo a bunch of your sites/ blogs/articles and keep it documented.

Your best bet is to offer some kind of service for free, or a really low price to build up testimonials and reviews. Once you can show that you do quality work it can only get better.

Hope that helped:)

so u think u know seo but u prolly dont..

That's some good advice there iglow...and very motivating.

How about this: You can outsource most of your work. Do your research before hiring anyone and fire quickly!

You can tell your clients (if asking for a portfolio) that for yours and their protection you ask that they sign an NDA and that the reason for this is because you've found that their competition (and yours) could steal your methods and ideas. I'm not saying this is foolproof for everyone but it does work and as you get clients and finish projects you can post them in your portfolio and eventually be able to show work when asked. It's a start.

Get creative. You will face rejection but if this is the business you want to be in then that will be a fact of life for you initially but once you build some clientele with some residual monthly fee's you'll be good to go and can start scaling up providing you are offering valuable services and producing results for your clients.

This helps if you want to work for someone else or your just starting off in the game.
what the op wanted to know is there companies out there who give out internships so he could learn seo(From what I read). Sadly i havent seen one doing this since its easily automated if its BH and whitehat you have to be more hands on and exp. because you dont want to mess up and get sandbagged as they call it. Best to start off with serveral of your own websites. As a previous poster said keep a portfoilo, if you try to start a seo business in the future this will help. Best of luck to you. :)
