Hi guys,

I have been running this website for a while now (over a year) and not very happy with the current income it generates. The website is probably in a tough category to monetize; it's a funny picture blog with mostly pictures and not a lot of text. But nevertheless with the amount of traffic it gets it should be able to bring in some decent money.

The site gets around 40,000 - 50,000 visits a month or 1200 - 2000 a day.
I currently have three ad spaces assigned: a banner (728x90), a skyscraper lower on the page (120x600) and a rectangle at the top of the page in a sidebar (300x250). Since the site is banned from AdSense I'm currently only using Contextweb and the fillrate is pretty terrible (around 20%).
I've tried other advertising services such as buysellads (sucks), projectwonderful (not accepted because of non-original content) etc.

Do you guys have any advice as to what's the best way to monetize a site like this. Selling banners for a fixed amount per month? If so, where? CPM? If so, what network is the best (besides AdSense)?

Thanks in advance.

Home Page:
Perhaps try CPA? Popunders could work if you want to piss off some of your users

The old owner was using popunders. That was the first thing I removed, because I prefer to increase traffic.
Any examples of CPA networks?

I'd suggest CPA, just be careful as there's not many reputable ones left out there :)

I'd look into MaxBounty, Peerfly, Inads, or AdvertMarketing. Those are some of the few I've personally had good experiences with, :)

Thanks guys, I'll check those out.

Right now around $60 a month with Contextweb. Should be way higher with the traffic it gets I think.

Update: Lijit denied the site too. The reason is:

Site contains adult content, hate speech, or other objectionable content
I'm not sure what content they are talking about, because there's no nudity or adult content. There are a bunch of posts with babe pictures, but that's pretty much it. I understand those companies are picky, but this is plain prude (just like Google). Makes it a lot harder to make money with a site like this.
Are there any decent networks where you can rent out bannerspace (besides buysellads and projectwonderful)? I've been looking, but it's like finding a needle in a haystack.

They are hard beast to monotise you see! You can get alot of trafic to them but making money is the hard part.

Plus, 2000 a day isn't that much for a site like this. Its like a porn site you need a ton of visitors to start seeing good money coming in.

How are you getting the traffic at the moment? social media? search?

I would think that your best plan would be to find a good paying CPM company. I am suprised that lijit regected you. Do you have a lot of babe pics? maybe worth taking them down, resubmit and then slowly put them back up. I have seen lijit network on a few sites that have babes on them.

Yeah that's what I've noticed too. Most of the traffic is organic and a tiny bit of social media traffic too (mainly Facebook). There is a Facebook fanpage with about 3500 followers so that adds to the traffic. It's a PR 3 site and most of the traffic is high quality US traffic.

I'm also surprised they rejected me, because seriously the amount of babe pics is very limited as compared to the overall content. Besides that there's no nudity involved anywhere. The thing is that taking them down is tough, because for two keywords that are related to this content the site ranks really well.

So far the only CPM networks that didn't deny me are Contextweb and Chitika. But Chitika didn't work for sh*t (at least in the past). Maybe I'll give them another shot and combine them with Contextweb using backup tags.

Pretty crazy that actually monetizing the site is harder than getting traffic. The traffic is growing nicely.
