I've spent nearly 8 hours today talking with Namecheap Live Chat support and, in the end, I'm yet to move from point "A" and I am so frickin mad!

Basically, I am on an unplanned vacation and a few days ago I have renewed few domains, got some SSL, and a better and bigger hosting pack...

The problem is while transferring from expired hosting to the new one, I lost all progress, years of work have been lost!

Anyway... I forgot that old hosting is about to end, went on vacation, shit expired, I need those files from that expired hosting, is there any way I could get it back?

I can't think honestly straight anymore, I have 2 options but I want to see if there is a third possibility...

Thanks in advance everyone. [backup your stuff on time - don't be lazy]

Your old hosting company probably still have them on the server after 15 to 30 days. So it would be better to ask from them or renew the hosting to save the data if its a simple shared hosting. Afterwards, you can save your data and migrate to new hosting and cancel the previous one

When was your old account expired? A basic host will offer you a week before deleting everything.

The only solution I can think of (if the first host isn't terminated yet) is to renew it, get everything out from there, then copy it to your new hosting.

A head up for next time: use all in one wp migration to take easy and quick backups of all your sites (assuming you're using wordpress).

Renew again then ask for refund

Thanks for the help guys.

Those are my 2 option that I am aware of, but, was wondering if there is more...

I can either renew or pay for a backup.

Renew is not an option as I got a bigger pack with the same company.

I know I can pay for backup [$15] which I will do, but just because I am mad as hell right now because of everything I went through today, I want to see if there is any other option...

@Yrior you know, we don't think about it until it happens.

Backing up? Pfff... I got that! Nah, I was lazy and I forgot honestly...

We live and [never] learn.

I myself lost MANY websites due to me not taking backups so I completely understand that.

pay namecheap renewal fee to get access to your server back
whats $15 or whatever the fee VS hours of your time researching alternatives
after that you can give namecheap the middle finger
i ditched them long time ago and tell everyone to stay away

so what are you using now?

Most likely your files are already in the expired hosting.
I don't understand why they cannot just transfer the previews hosting plan to the new one if it is the same hosting company.

if your account is just suspended not yet terminated then you can recover it

First of all check if you are still able to login to the control panel. if yes then you can easily take the backup. I am assuming you must have already tried that before posting here.

Apart from that there is no other way to get the backup without involving the hosting company. You can renew the hosting for a month or so and take a full backup. I would suggest not to delay it any further because all companies have deletion policy after X number of days they will just delete all the data from there server and it won't be possible to recover it then.

namesilo for domains ovh and knownsrv for hosting
yeah, namesilo is my preferred domains provider, too. Haven't heard of the other 2, though, so I guess I have to do some research since I'll not be a namecheap customer for all eternity (the inodes limit of 300k inodes, which is not being mentioned before purchasing their hosting really bothers me to the core. I hate deceiving marketing with my entire being)

Yeah, it sucks but that is our mistake honestly.

That is what I'm about to do...

I don't know, it should be easier but, we do make mistakes and we should pay to learn I guess.

Thanks @pavan

Unfortunately, there is renew option only for a full year.

No, I don't have access to CP anymore.

Now the question is, how all this will reflect on the keywords and rankings I had before.

if you bought a bigger plan with the same provider then the provider must migrate your data from the old plan to the new plan. but in case the data is removed from their backup servers then there is nothing that can be done.

PS: I am using Namecheap from many years and I know their support is great, I hope they will sort this out for you.

Can you also let us know what is the reply from Namecheap support about the backup from your expired plan. Do they have it or is the account terminated?

I am under the right assumption this is both under Namecheap hosting right?
Why don't you cancel the new one you purchased (since it's empty anyways)
Renew the old one and then wait until summer sale (in a few hours) and ask for a discount to upgrade?
&, you need install yourself a backup plugin !

Thanks @ghost666 and @xReminisce

I planned to write what happened so that people who read this and have similar or the same problems would know what they need to do or at least know what awaits them along the way.

Honestly, this is the first time this has happened to me and I have to say it is painful to go through this.

However, it's my fault...

Namecheap support, especially Live Chat is really phenomenal!

They helped me a lot, I was nervous as hell, honestly, when I opened this thread because everything happened suddenly, I am on vacation, I paid for everything and some other things, and in the end, I lost everything, I didn't like it honestly.

But, everything is fine, I'm yet to finish with all but right now as I'm typing all this, it should be done in few minutes as I'm finishing with the last upload in phpMyAdmin, here is what happened and what you need to do if this happens to you.

First and foremost you always do a backup, we have plugins for that today so it’s easy, don’t be lazy like I was.

I didn’t do the backup and in the end, I paid $15 for Namecheap to do the backup from the old hosting, it all ended quickly (they do backups every 3 - 7 days so you can get it anytime as I understood).

Btw, I can't renew the old hosting because I wanted to switch to one with unlimited domains, so, it's alright, how else I could learn something new lol.

Anyway, when I downloaded the 750 MB file, a few problems followed.

I got messages that I exceeded the daily quote so I had to switch and upload via FTP, instead of directly to cPanel.

Another problem is, I'm not home and I have desperate internet here, especially that upload speed that doesn't exceed 1 MB / s!

Before that, you have to create a new folder in cPanel and transfer the file there, then transfer that file to the new folders, if you have them, of course, for all the sites you had.

After creating MySQL Databases, new user, assign new user, when you have done all that go to phpMyAdmin, click on the database and upload the file you have.

This is exactly what I am doing now and this should finally be the last step and the sites will be up and running after this, I will definitely do another update post later.

Anyway, it's very complicated if you're going through all this for the first time, probably for others who know this and go through everything often for them it's easy but, I went crazy honestly hehe

I hope that's it and thanks once again for all the help...

No problem mate
fingers crossed for you, everything will work out in the long run !
Mistakes happen, some mistakes are more expensive than others, it's all fine as long as the lesson is learnt.
I recommend looking into Updraft for backups (if you are using WP), it's pretty swell, if you got the festinger vault, it's in there up to date. If not. There one floating around on BHW (an older ver) probably.

I always liked Namecheaps support, it's why most of my domains are there. They are usually always very professional and on the odd times they ain't, just open a new chat for a new person lol

And, it's not going well, at all.

I'm losing patient slowly...

Check this [after 4 hours of uploading the damn file].

If someone told me that transferring files from one to another hosting between the same company would be so hard I would laugh honestly.

I can only guess that all the previous work, keywords, rankings have been lost by now...

It is a pity to hear about your situation. But I do not think that everything is lost.
What you mentored is about offsite SEO and that does not depend on the content you have.
But onsite SEO is in danger.

Are you importing the database in .Zip or in .sql format?
