I got one from the post office the other day but they made me register my name and address and show id.

Apart from getting stolen ones are there some ways to get them paying by cash and not having to give details?

Not sure exactly how it works in the UK but I'm sure you can find cheap ones on ebay. They are alot cheaper than getting them at any store. Plus if you worried about leaving your personal information you could buy verified accounts for ebay and PayPal in the market place and purchase the sim cards using a pre paid credit card.

From my experience, you can buy prepaid sim cards in UK basically at any store without giving your personal details. I bought about 10 cards from O2 and they asked nothing, you just have to choose the purpose of cards, whether international calls or local plans etc. I'm not sure about online buying though...

Duuuh for those who say buy online you have to still give your home address silly.

Doh, I just came back from tescos now I remember the other thing I wanted to check for when I was in there.

Funnily enough I actually found an orange sim card on the floor last night when I was walking. But im kinda of a bit paranoid to try it, what if it was some murderer's sim card and the police have a marker to track it.

Show ID? I got one from Tescos Mobile and I just phoned to confirm address (not really mine) unless they were just being relaxed that day all was gravy.

Google free sims and give a fake name and your address.
You're not legally required to give out your real name for this.
Fake your user agent so that nobody can say it was ordered from your pc.

Do you also wear a disguise when buying in person?

Shops with CCTV dont ask for ID in the UK, hehe.
In other words, if you want to buy something anonymously, go to the mainland Europe.
