    Hi people from bhw,

I am a dutch native but I always have been intriged by England. This summer I would like to move there for a few months to get new experiences. My English is decent but I have a terrible dutch accent if you will. I was wondering if any of you guys have some tips to get ride of this accent so I can sound more like a native English speaker.

    Truly yours,

    Greengo

Don't fight it, embrace it :)

I have a Slavic accent when I speak English. I tried to improve at first. I latter realised it's not worth my time.

I sometimes do skype calls with my clients and I never had complaints about my accent. It's probably only important to you and not to the people you're talking to as long as they can understand you.

And besides, if you're going to England you'll hear more Pakistani English then English English :)

Not to brag but back when I was a call center agent for american customers, I used to be mistaken for a native when I'm anything but. Very often my colleagues would ask me how or where I learned to speak like that, and nobody believed that my 'secret' trick was simply to READ ALOUD. If you come across a word that you don't know how to pronounce, there are several options online that you can check out.
If it worked with american accent, I don't see why it shouldn't with the british one.

    Hope that helps.

    100% working method,

    1. Get some popcorn
    2. Find a movie in the accent you want
    3. Practice saying the lines exactly the way they do.
    4. Do this everyday for 1 1/2 hours for 2 weeks. I'm not joking.
    5. I used to do this to get ready for a role in plays.

Results may vary depending on your hearing.

If you google "american accent training" you'll find a lot of programs. They're commonly used in indian-based call centers.
Replace "american" with "british english" and you'll find a couple of courses.
