People often look for ways to get press coverage/mentions to establish themselves as an expert or have more credibility. Often times they are willing to spend thousands of dollars for this, also here on BHW.
However, depending on your skills and knowledge, you can also get it for free.
How?
Sign up for free on "Help a reporter" and become a source: https://www.helpareporter.com
Basically, there are journalists who need a source or someone they can quote. There are many small/medium newspapers and magazines. But also Forbes, Techcrunch and many other bigger ones.
You can choose how many emails with questions/media opportunities you want to receive. Then, they will email you with questions/topics. You log into their website and answer the question with the specific requirements.
You will receive emails like this. This is just one example of a category. Then you click on the link and start answering the question.

Here is how it worked for me:
I am using it for around three months, just casually checking their emails and questions. Often times they ask industry-related questions, but sometimes also just ask for opinions of people who are working in the industry.
I replied to around 30 of them and got picked 5 times. All of them were related to the tech industry. They quoted me, uploaded a pic of me, and mentioned me and my business. Two of them are linking to my website. These two also exchanged emails with me and asked me if they could ask me more questions in the future.
Tips:
- Be precise in your messages/answers, no bullshit. Don't miss the point of the initial question.
- Grammar and spelling. Also, don't send emails like "dear sir here is the answer to ur question". Just keep it professional.
- Be friendly
- Don't ask for links or anything, don't beg them to mention you, etc. they will do it naturally
- If you message them, it is smart to start the message with "Hi, I am XYZ, CEO/CFO/CTO/xyz/ of XYZ, here is the answer to your question: xyz"
Overall, I think it's a great opportunity to get press coverage and also backlinks for free.
One more useful piece of advice:
To see if someone actually chose your reply, you can set up an alert for your name or company name on Google. Once the article got published and indexed, you will receive an email with a link to the article.
