    Hi Blackhatworld!

So I've been in the game for quite a few years now. I have one site specifically that I focus on now.

It gets about 20-40k views/month (yeah, big variance). Lots of regulars, good social media followings, and a really good sized newsletter (for my website, at least, I'm sure some of ya'll would think it is tiny haha). I'm in a comedy/helpful niche. I write about a lot of different things, but usually add in humor.

Back about a year and a half ago I made a couple videos similar in tune to my writing (comedy) and my readers really liked them. I had a lot of shares/views/likes really fast. I ended up deleting them though, as I got a "professional" day job, and didn't want them to pop up and make anything weird at work.

But I do surveys of my audience pretty frequently, and one of the things I get most (and in Twitter comments) is always about going back to some video format. Since I've grown size-ably since then, I know it could be a pretty cool idea to get back into it, and could even potentially be really profitable.

But I'm terrified of it. I can do video editing fine, and I make videos fine - but the idea of people I know (especially at the day job) finding them freaks me out lol.

How did/do you guys get over it? Should it be something I'm open with about at work? Not mention it? Don't do it until after I get to blogging full-time? I'd be glad to hear any advice.

    1. Quit your day job.
    2. Make shit tons of money doing internet marketing / sales / whatever with videos.
    3. Laugh at peons with office jobs
    4. If anyone gives you shit for making videos, laugh at them for being office peons and continue rolling in money.

    That's lizard brain talk.

The people who might laugh at you deep down will be envious of your success and wish they could be in your shoes.

It is kind of tough OP, you have to decide if you want to become a Video douche.
You really need to have confidence but I understand that you have concerns about the embarrassment and ridicule you might face in your day job.
The reality is, that some of the people you work with and know personally will take the piss, especially if the style of your videos are different to your known personality.
BUT at the end of the day, who are you making the videos for and why you are making them are more important, if making these videos can grow your business and improve your life then don't let what other people think hold you back.

You have a hobby outside of work, whats the big deal?

You should however check your HR policy, as some companies are snooty about you having a second job.

    Solid advice.

Just curious, why do you refer to being a vlogger as video douche.

Well I am torn between finding 90% of vloggers as annoying and full of self importance and finding the other 10% awesome for sharing quality information.
Video is great and is more important than ever but I find a lot of those guys cringe-worthy arseholes.
Some of these guys try playing a character and it makes them look like clowns, I prefer people to be natural as it makes them look more trustworthy.
BUT, again bottom line, I still respect anybody trying to change their lives for the better, just wish more of the Video guys had real talent.

Actually I just woke up 30 minutes ago so just might be having the morning grumps.

Yeah, a lot of vloggers that are coming up have this weird persona. I see your point.

Epitome of video douche: Rip Trippers
