Wanted to reach out to the community. I'm doing SEO for an authoritative site.

The site has a category killer domain.

My strategy is to do guest post for other finance websites.

Does anyone have any tips on what works well?

I can track when people are opening emails.

    Some ideas I had include:
-Offering them the ability to guest post on our authority site

So far, 1 DA 70 site agreed to work with us, but this progress is not enough

I've been sending personalized emails one by one to about 40 so far

    Hi there,

May I suggest the non-email approach? Harder but not a waste of time as 98% of email is...

Get hold of the required Editorial person (via research) and call! Bribe, offer contra-deals. Just make the personal connection. Cold emailing will not return the results you are after. You need to relationship-build. Bit like Advertising Sales really. Connect with the account holder (person in charge of placing your link/whatever you are after) and befriend them.

Of course it won't be instant but if you are charming enough - and don't have a terrible site/pyramid offering/2 man band in the long-term it may well work in your favor. Your current emails will be binned in seconds without this.

Keep it short and simple - usps, joint partnerships etc - how can we work together etc? Always an open ended question?
When I have worked in finance sites one thing we like to push was 'ask the expert'. Win- win. Depends exactly what kind of finance business though I suppose. Is it just for SEO?

This is just one answer i totally agree with. Straight to the point. Although Email Marketing and contact forms do work. But i think, Sponsored posting works better than charm.

call is best. Offer them value back. In terms of money or another link which is just as good as what they give you. Give them the feeling that you took some time to review their site. That flatters them. Making a compliment about one SPECIFIC article can be a good icebreaker.

Dont be needy. Dont act too much as a salesman. Just: "Hey I like your site because of ___. I would like to place an article. In return you get ___ What is your opinion?" Be prepared that 80% or more say no. That is fine. Its always a numbersgame

;) as long as you ensure it doesn't state SPONSORED! etc

Also do yourself a favor don't bother dealing with the delusional people of this world who think they are the next [insert any massive traffic site]. Get the traffic stats first and keep conversations short, if they are wasting your time (think of it by money lost per minute) get out of there. A good prep is just to ask for a media pack via email pre calling - if they don't have one have a second think! Clearly have a different email and name and do it a week or so previous!

Then again it really depends on what you want? Sales, exposure, partnership, seo value?

I got one of these guys on the phone recently. He has something like 1000 visitors a day. He wanted $5000 for a guest post??? Oh no it was $4995. And it was not an answer to get rid of me. He seriously believed his site was worth it. I politely ended the call.

Tell me about it... Just get used to narrowing it down within 5 minutes if it's worth your time :) In your case a massive online publication with reach is. But don't speak to the sales people, only editorial. I'll create a guide if there is enough interest. (Ex-major National newspapers and Magazines Agency Sales Rep).
