How do I get members to the forum? Opened the forum a couple of days ago. Someone said that I can pay a freelancer $75/week and they will work 8-10 hours a day, doing whatever it is that you want? So if they work for 10 hours a day, reporting to me every 5 hours.

Im sure they can make 10 fake members, and post... I dont know... 200-300 posts a day?

I was all thinking of buying the social bookmarks?

Getting some SEO plugins for vbulletin?

    Anything else?

    Thanks!

use facebook groups of your niche to invite real people.

Pay people to make usefull posts.

Or create usefull posts yourself and get traffic from search engines.

Thanks a lot for all the advice!
I feel like paying someone at $75/week from India is the best way to go. I can just provide them at other forums to look for reference or something.

    Any other advice!?

    THANKS!:D

Hi.. I don't think paying someone to post is ideal way. Atleast that's what I did few months ago and it didn't really give me the results I wanted.

Instead of that, you are better off hiring a freelancer at a much lesser price and ask them to create a couple of accounts. You can then prepare some threads/posts/replies and have the freelancer to update them at regular intervals.

Bear in mind that content on the forums is what really pulls people in. Also set up a guest view limit so this way the traffic has to register in order to view the thread conversation.

Lastly focus on running some competitions. I usually give out a free banner space to the member with the highest post + fiverr gift certificate to the second place member.

I don't have 100's of members, just 45, but all of them are active and really contribute to the forum and the best part is i've managed to actually connect with them and discuss JV within our niche.

Don't focus on quantity but rather quality and set yourself up to put in some work.. traffic will trickle in slowly so look long-term.

Create a Facebook page, a Twitter account where you post a Tweet when a cool thread is open on your forum, "promote" your forum on related forums, create a Download section to get traffic, YouTube videos with watermarks, ...

Just trying to find some good nuggets.
Someone suggested to go to Yahoo Answers, find the keywords that you target your forum to and scrape the question + answers onto your forum

Thats one method. Since my forum is also linked to a wordpress site, I use statcounter to track the incoming keyword phrases. Any long tail phrases that come in, I automatically create a post. Its a lot more effective to rank the forum as well for such individual long tail phrases.

Forums are now extremely hard to get members, because there are many many other forums on the same niche as yours, and they have many more advantages than your forum, like faster answers, more communication, more choice of threads, probably a better paid membership, like for example "car forums" , there are at least 5 really popular ones, and many medium - sized , these medium sized worked their asses off to get it where it is now, check the date when their forum was made, probably couple of years to get where they are.

I've ran a forum twice earlier, both times failed because I was not prepared, I haven't planned things. The hardest part is getting members (or better let's say, members who will post). Take a look on who's online on BHW now, not all will post, many just post once in a while.
I believe to run a forum you do need a good budget, a perfect plan, else it will take a lot of years to get medium activity on it.

Depending on your niche, you need to give your members an advantage other forums don't, and you should ask yourself, "Why do I spend more time on BHW than another internet marketing forum" for instance. Give your members an advantage, advertise it via buying banner spaces, you can do SEO as well in the same time, but I'd concentrate on easy keywords to rank before going for a big one, you need activity on your forum, buy banner spaces on other sites, and stuff like that. Running a forum is really hard.
Many try to run a forum but fail, I'm not saying you will, you have to be interested in your forum and work hard, eventually you will get it popular, but don't expect it to grow big fast, it takes time.

For the start you could obviously hire people to post on a regular basis , let's say 0.1 per post, 10 posts = $1. 10 workers to make 50 posts daily = 300 posts = $50 daily= $1,500 monthly.

I think paying a freelancer will work. Why not give it a try?

You will get your forum more traffic if your forum is:

    RESOURCEFUL RESOURCEFUL RESOURCEFUL....!!

otherwise who will join also wont be thr for longer..
