If you have a hotel or rent vacation houses here's a trick you could use to make sure you get lots of free leads (meaning name + address) to whom you can send direct mail advertising your hotel/rental.

You offer a postcard delivery service, meaning you give each visitor 5 free postcards and YOU SEND THESE on their behalf (exploit their laziness).

What will happen is visitors will of course write something like "i'm having a great time here" on their postcard (nobody writes stuff like "i'm having such a terrible time on this vacation, here's a postcard") and decide to send it to close friends. When they give you postcards to be sent you take the info (name + address of their friend) and send the postcard.

A week or 2 later you send your visitor's friend some mail to advertise your hotel/rental.
The more visual impact the mail will have, the better, so don't send a crappy letter.

What happens here is your visitor will advertise your service without even knowing and give you 5 leads each virtually for free.

You're welcome.

Is that a valuable lead though? Sure they have a good first impression of your hotel, but you dont know if they will ever travel to your city.

Well, they're most likely from the same city as your visitor, when doing lead generation you don't want and can't achieve 100% accuracy, even if only 1 out of 5 leads were a valuable one, you would end up with a good amount of hot leads. These are people who have a close friend who spoke nice words about your hotel/rental, that seems valuable enough to me.

Nice tip but hard to scale.

Nice tip but hard to scale.
Why? You get 5 free leads for each client, that's a lot!
Having an hotel isn't a scalable business itself, like, you can open more and more hotels, but that's pretty much it.

Not sure if i figured out what you mean tho.

Some things i forgot to mention:

The people your client will want to send postcards too are most likely from the same city as your client, and they are most likely able to spend the same amounts of money (nobody sends a postcard to their broke friend so that they can show off), this means they have the same chances of becoming your clients as your client had before visiting your place.

Sending them a nice piece of mail (better if it's a box, it has to look like something important, even better if you use a unique delivery service like FedEx) can look like spam and be annoying, that's why it needs to look very good, so that it goes from "spam" to "oh, look how nice these guys are".

Sending it a week after the postcard is because when your client goes back home they will likely meet their friends in that week and tell them about how great their experience was (not saying it will definitely happen, but will most likely happen) and then they get the mail.
