Hey all. I got my first real IT job in an office. But I am also their web and SEO manager. I got all the normal social profiles and such but I really need some high quality incoming natural links. I don't want to give out to much information about the company but it is NOT a store, it is a service. I am looking to come up with a way to contact new outlets and attempt to get some local coverage for the back links. Anyone have success with this? Have any plans? I need some guidance on making the business newsworthy and how I can use that to get it in front of news sites. It is a women-owned business, I'm not sure if that is an angle I can use to help me.

They get 1000s of similar mails daily, do you really think they're gonna write about your company. On the other side, if you're doing it for links you can purchase those (not at your regular $5 SEO provider)

Try local directory listings and press release.

To me this is a job for a PR agency.

Does your company have one? If they do it will be best if you come up with a joint plan.

If you are after local coverage you should be able to find the contacts that you need. You will need to come up with a newsworthy story and it will probably be best to have this written by a professional - People per Hour is good for this.

The more expensive press release sites will serve up stories to the inboxes of journalists - eg. Pressking

This is a small local business. Not an incredible budget for things like this.

Contact them through phone and ask them how much they charge for an editorial link. You can only get these links by paying a good amount (varies by news site) unless you have an extremely awesome site that people will be impressed by, and then, you'd have to wait ages (years) for one reporter to finally notice your site and post your site in a lame article that will be forgotten a day later.

Call them and ask for the advertising/sales department.

You have to get in touch with the editors and journos that write the articles and share their stories, make yourself useful to them. Then you can consider asking for a placement.
