I read on WF that most of the domains on expireddomains are really crappy and the good brokers get them before they are even released... how are they doing that? Is there a good article or tutorial on this?

You need better and faster scrapers than them :) Sounds easy, it's not.

Go to dynadot and download the pending delete list. Search the domain list and select the domains that you want by checking the metrics, use the backordering service to catch them as soon as they drop.

They are really not crappy. I mean most of them are,but they are like 1% of really good domains. You just need to know way to grab them before anyone else. But nobody who knows the way probably won't tell you that,at least not public.

Check websites like namejet. Services like namejet catch doamins right after domain drop (i think its not possible to buy them faster) and offer domains on auctions. Really good domains never drop. Service like snapnames, namejet etc will catch them and offer on auctions. You need really good expired domains? You have to buy them on these services but prepare to spend low-mid $xxx

I used to catch domains 1 years ago and I can say that it is possible but uneconomical and works only for LOW QUALITY domains. So it is waste of time. But you will find below my method if you would like to use it.

    1. First you should everyday check domains which will be deleting in 1 day time. Then you should to check this list and choose good domains only. So you will have a knowledge about domains before they will be expired. Yes, it is easy but boring.

    2. In the next day you need to catch them. It is not so simple. Manual buying is a waste of time. The best effect was for me when I have bought a domain and few moments later I have received information that transaction wasn't successful because of error: domain has been already registered. :) So you should to do it faster. Impossible? Possible!

Just make some deposit at the registrar and try do use API to buy a domain (not all registrars are ready to give it for free). Api is a simple url which will allow you to buy domain by one click only. Of course you can make it automatic but there is a next problem...

    3. ... there are a lots of people who would like to buy it. Using this method make your chance bigger but it is still small. Well known Catchers uses many API to catch a domain (dozens? hundreds? but I am sure that more than you can use). So...

    4. If you would like to catch good domains use Catchers and forgot about caching good domain in price of new :)

It is simple IMPOSSIBLE. I catched only a domains in lower quality. They are ok for website but not for PBN.

There is a method where you search for blog rolls from 2005 or something and you put it through xenu link sleuth and find domains with no host. You check those again with bulk domain checker. Theres your domains.

Some people scrape huge authority sites and put every page through a link checker like Xenu. That's where the golden domains are. Its much harder to do though.

You will have to really keep a close on expired domain names as you cannot acquire them as soon they expire. When a domain name expires, it falls in redemption period where original owner can pay the fine and get domain renewed. If the owner does not renew domain name even during redemption period, then it becomes available for registration again.

Do you think that method with Xenu is good. Most of them have been dropped long time ago. I am sure that G know very well that domain has been bought one more time. They had a lot of time to check it few times.

Terrible advice in this thread. It's almost impossible to catch great expired domains. Some very big parties are registering in milliseconds after they drop, so don't even try.

The best way is to get great domains this way is by scraping all domains in redemption period/quarantine, looking up the WHOIS information and contacting the owner. Many of them have no idea how much great domains are actually worth (that's why they're dropping the in the first place), so most of the time you can make a low $xx offer and get the domain. If you're stingy you can even ask them to hand the domain over for free. Just be aware that most registrars ask outrageous prices to restore these domains ($xx-$xxx) which the current owner most likely is not going to pay for.

Generally you're just not going to get a great expired domain for a reasonable price, so this is one of the only ways to not get royally screwed.
