I've got cable, and a dynamic ip address. I'm trying to get a new IP address assigned...I've tried suggestions I've found online, but so far no joy..

Running windows XP, and cable modem connects directly to computer...

suggestions on how to get it done?

Don't think it's possible using Cable. I think it's dynamic IP that doesn't change if you reset the modem.

Im not sure what you are trying to accomplish but maybe you can just use an IP switcher. There are a few good ones out there.

try this

Find program called SMAC

unplug cable modem

Change PC NIC mac address last 4 digits using SMAC

Reboot cablemodem plugged into PC

(you can also change your ethernet NIC MAC address via the network settings but SMAC will just doit for you)

This works on nearly all Cable Modem Networks
