    Hey internet folks!

So recently a lot of my sites were hit by big G. I have quite a few niche sites going and it hit me like a bulldozer. I was shocked. I guess that is what being fired feels like, bye bye Income.

    What went wrong?
Thin Content. Doorway Pages. Thin Affiliates. That is what the penalty stated and yes, Google is right. 99% of all affiliate pages are crap, but they work. Well that is until you get a penalty. The penalty hit all my pages, that were in my GWT account. I guess the problem was using the link disavow tool, that got Google hooked on my account and it was doomed.

    Recover!
After being stunned for a while, I have tried different methods to recover from that penalty. I removed all Affiliate Products from my page, leaving just the content pages and sent a reconsideration request. That worked! But just for one page. The others were rejected. Then I tried it again, using the same technique, but writing a much better request. Basically I wrote a letter. And it worked. Again and Again!

    How it is done!
Now I have a solid strategy to conquer manual penalties, which I like to share with you.

    1. Look at your page and fix the issue. That might be as easy as removing the products for now or whatever you think you did wrong.
    2. Write a well formed reconsideration request:
      1. Address them directly "Dear Google Team"
      2. Write what you did wrong and that you regret it
      3. Tell them what measures you took to fix the issue
      4. Tell them what measures you are preparing to take in the future to deliver higher quality
      5. State that you now no longer violate the rules
      6. Say that you will put effort into keeping it that way!
      7. Ask them kindly to revoke the penalty
      8. ... Best regards <your name>
    3. Fix the issue long term. Add some quality to your site.

Actually it is common sense to act this way, but many, like me, will be paralyzed first and overthink things. I have recovered all my pages and learnt a lot in my progress doing so. Some pages were hit, even the quality was alright. Sometimes G is like that, just work your way out of it.

    A little rant.
The web is flooded with poorly made affiliate sites. Everything that you look for will bring up an affiliate page. Yes, I am part of the problem, but I have learned to increase my quality and now, as strange as it may sound to some marketers out there, seek to offer valuable information to the user. Not because Google will punish me for not doing so, but I have realized, I am the user and I am sick of all these shitty wordpress affiliate pages.
Well, it is not going to change, but I needed to let it out.

I hope my little guide helps you when you are in trouble with penalties.

    All the best,
    rootz

Thanks for this guide. One thing I learned from this: don't put all your website in your GWT account :)

Yes and No. The trouble you have managing multiple accounts, making sure not to use the same IP to access them ever, ... well it might be a little overly paranoid to act like this, but Google is pretty good in making connections.

I would say the takeaway should be, make something that stands up to the guidelines, then there is no need to worry.

The key is proving to the search quality team that you have done everything humanly possible to remove the low quality links or improve your content depending on the kind of manual penalty you received.

Nice tips. I have a few penalized websites in my GWT account. I have already sent reconsideration request but all in vain. Will try following your advice next time!
