How about livework.com? It's beta. Have you tried oDesk?
I'm sure you'll find the same problem with odesk. NDA's only protect you if you're dealing with ethical people. It's kind of like how gun ownership laws only protect society from people who abide by the law.
So screw the law!
I would buy the script they ripped off from you, have it rebranded, and begin reselling it. Clone their backlinks, do what you have to do to get them blacklisted by Spamhaus, DDOS their sites (you can pay Russians to do that MWAhahaahha) and then go after their asses with an Indian attorney using the money you make. I'm sure Indian attorneys are comparatively cheap, too.

Please dont pass racial comments about Indians here. I wont tolerate that :).

Read Carson Rathi's thread about choosing a freelancer or hiring a company on freelancer. It will help you specially with Indian Freelancers.

I dont do freelancing, but if your idea is good and you can afford prices of a high quality coder, let me know. I can give you some good referrals, I use them for my projects.

I am and Indian and Proud to be the same!

I don't think he said anything racist. He just said the unethical companies he worked with were in India. This is relevant because he has no legal recourse. Or does he? I think you're the only one on this thread who can answer that question and I personally would like to know, in case I run into the same problem.

I'm interviewing about 40 people through Odesk right now while I set up my outsourcing firm. Most of them are in the Philippines, one in Bangladesh, one in Pakistan. Only one agency (of four people) from India has applied so far, but they look good.

he didn't say anything racist, I think he was just writing about his experience.

Being an Indian myself, I didnt find anything racist there.

If you want to post anything related to scam, post it in Shitlist section and not here.

Hi Smiley, just read your post messages. I'm also newbie here.
If you are still looking for an outsourcing company you better do a thorough research and if possible get a referral or recommendation from other companies who already worked with outsourcing companies. Send me a message offline so I could tell who those companies are. Or you could check that out with LinkedIn, there are recommendations there. :)

I've been quoted by a few "outsourcing" companies that wanted like $15+ to hire someone from India. I can hire someone in the states for that money AND actually have an NDA be worth something.

You'll figure it out. After getting to know the right people, you'll start getting hookups and you'll be fine. :)

If you want to get script developed, the best option would be calling your local yellow pages. I used to use freelancers from various sites however these days i switched to real company whom i can visit personally. By the way, if some Indian is reading this thread and want to know how to hire good team for project then follow this:

STEP 1: Call 011-22222222 (JustDial number)

STEP 2: Inform then that you are looking for website developer in PHP and MySql or what ever language you want to get your stuff developed.

STEP 3: Mention that you want the team from YOUR area and nearby only. So that you can personally visit there office to see what they actually do.

After this you will instantly start getting calls from PHP developers (as JustDial forward your contact to them) and you can simply shortlist them on call by asking them:

Que 1: What's your company name and formation date?
Based on there answer, check whether there company is listed on our Gov site from:
http://mca.gov.in/DCAPortalWeb/dca/MyMCALogin.do?method=setDefaultProperty&mode=16

Que 2: How many employees and what's your specialization?

Que 3: Sample website please

Que 4: How do you charge (means per hour basis or manpower pases or per project basis)

Que 5: Sample of work (the work that is done in your required language like PHP in our example)

After you get satisfied with this, then schedule meeting in THERE office, so that you can get the idea of there rates.

Pay in Installments like 25% in starting, 25% when they show first example, 50% when work is done and submitted.

Hope it helps!

Thanks,
Carson

In my opinion, credibility is based upon two factors:

1) Reviews
2) Compatibility

If they offer everything that you need, meet all of your requirements and are value for money, that's one problem solved. If their reviews point towards efficiency in their services including Support, then you're on to a winner.

ALWAYS look for reviews.

Hope that helps,
Lynn.
