Nice share. I think the best part is checking each keyword in SERP. I discovered this not too long ago (months) and it paid off big time.
I've seen different ways if doing it, one guy even automated the relevance part.
One thing I'd skip from your guide is the volume part. Some 0 vol keywords have plenty of searches. The tools displaying volume are not accurate, so better pick any keyword with low relevance that you can monetize.

So my question is if a keyword is "how to train a cat" and the guys dominating has high domain authority and there is another sub keyword like "how can cat be trained" and these guys are ranking without having the keyword, though they are higher authority and nobody has written on this keyword. So if I write on this keyword will I dominate those authority sites.

No, I think that's pretty much the same in the eyes of Google. In your example, a keyword I would go for would be something 'how to train a Bengal cat without treats', so a niche narrowed example.
It's always about 'niche narrowing' and not rephrasing. Unfortunately, Google is pretty good at ranking the same pages for synonyms.

What tool did you use to show the traffic when you search it? I've added mozbar to my chrome extension but only see the PA and DA results and not the traffic search volume. Thank you.
