I do not understand about 30 percent of what you wrote up there.

But what you're asking for is akin to asking 'how can you drive home safely with a blindfold on?'

You're going to crash.

Tools mustn't be paid, you can take advantage of free trials provided by several tools such as ubbersuggest, semrush etc, to spy on your competitors and do a little keyword research.

Alternatively, you could just look for some competitors you already know are getting traffic, then rewrite some of their content. This method is not always guaranteed to work, but sometimes it does.

Tools are there to make your life easier.

google's autosuggestion tool gives you a good idea of what people are lookin for. And it's free.

And if you don't mind spending $10-20 for a few 100k keywords, then KeywordsEverywhere is also a good (paid) alternative.

Or you can get KeywordSnatcher for $47 and find millions of keywords in google, youtube, bing, yahoo, amazon and ebay that you can target.

Join Facebook groups about your niche and create content around the most heated discussions.

I found that such topics bring a lot of traffic from search engines.
Interesting. Do you do additional google autocomplete to see whether it's a good fit or do you trust that it'll be a non-seasonal all time niche?

Here’s what I do.

I would find websites that are similar to the type of site that I want to build.

I would use Google Keyword Planner tool for this—it’s absolutely free; just sign up for an AdWords account.

Once you're inside the tool, type in the domain name of the sites that you want to reverse-engineer.

Google Keyword Planner tool would then spit out the main keywords of your competitors.

Now, find a way to make questions from these keywords and come up with variations.

Just type these variations into Google search box; scrape the questions that you get.

A good free tool that will help you do this is Keyword Shitter—go ahead and do a Google search for it.

Just type in the main keyword, and it will come up with variations.

You can also try AnswerThePublic or similar tools.

Once you get all these questions, the next step is to thoroughly analyze them.

Do they go to the heart of your niche, or are they just barely related?

The next step is to enter these keywords and figure out how other websites are targeting those questions.

Obviously, you should pick topics that fewer websites targeting them—start with those.

If you play your cards right, you will be able to rank for these much faster.

Once you have established domain authority, then you can target higher-value keywords with greater commercial intent.
