I would like to start a side project, which involves accepting payments from small businesses and I assume they would need proforma invoice or something similar for their accountancy/bookkeeping.

How to deal with things like this? Do I have to create a LLC or something similar?

Is there any guide related to this? Thanks.

If your in the US, just use Freshbooks or even excel to create the invoices. You dont need an LLC, just work under your name. You may need a business license, check your local chamber of commerce for help or the city or county. There are lots of free invoice templates for excel, and there are several nice free and inexpensive software for project tracking etc if you need that. I use a cheap script from code canyon, tracks jobs and does invoicing and lets me take paypal as well.
