A client has a negative ARTICLE reviewing his business on another website. Is there anyway to burn this from search so it doesnt appear on search. It is showing on the first page #2 so its way up there.

Also in his old life he was an actor and has an IMDB page. Can we de index that as well?

The only option is to report the abuse to the search engine and hope they air on your side. By yourself you can not deindex a site not even your own, you can only stop it from been crawled by the search engine by using a no index meta tags in your site code.

You shouldn't try to de-index it with links, as there is a high probability it will just come back stronger than ever.

You have to rank plenty of other articles/vids/profile e.t.c above it for the keyword it appears for.

If it is a brand name then it shouldn't be too costly...

Why not do some reputation management in the SERPs? Build links to other domains under it and hope it gets kicked off to the 2-3 and 4th page? Should be fairly easy to do as long as you build quality links :)

Try ranking other stuff relating with the same product or keyword that may help you.
De-indexing with links may result in a total mess.

Do keep in mind that with the new Google Disavow tool, all nasty links can be disavowed by a webmaster. So if you try to sandbox those pages, the webmaster will more than likely receive a notice from Google. After that, they will disavow all those links and you will be back to square one.

Best option is to do rep management. This is the most effective way to handle negative press.

    Thanks guys
rep managmenet is what I was thinking. I am going for his name which is one in the world. Non one has that name! However, IMDB is also optimized for his name so i really cant do anything about that.

I have started a youtube video already, a page in his website is already ranking low on front page. I will try a press release and see if that works.
    Anything else you woule recommend?
    Yahoo answers?

Why would you want to get rid of the IMDB page? That should display legitimate information. If not, why not contact the webmaster of IMDB as a representative of your client and have them remove the page? They should do it or get a cease and desist order from a lawyer :)

There are black hat ways but all break the law (I am cool with losing accounts for breach of terms and conditions but imagine how well a SEO does in prison!) just get some great reviews on better sites and lose it in the serps.

This is incorrect. There are ways of getting items removed. Reporting abuse is not the only option.
