The only to be sure is to send them a message and count bounces.

The problem with all of the verifiers out there is that the basic ones just do a handshake with the receiving mail server and ask if the email account exists and then drops the connection. Then it logs whether the account was available or not.

Some cooler ones will do this test but then they will also go the the create new account page and run all of the usernames from that domain through their available name checker. This assumes that if the name is not available then it is active.

The first method is fine for small providers that actually follow the email protocols but all big providers receiving email servers will accept everything that is sent to them. Then they sort it and decide what to do with the messages.

The second method is flawed due to major email providers not recycling addresses. Basically if the address ever existed that method would show it as active.

The programs are helpful but if you are going to have to go through getting accounts, proxies, smtp accounts, etc. why not just send a real email? It's just as fast and you will be able to process all of the bounces and have a nice clean list. Just do it on a system that is not tied to your primary server and don't get greedy and try to sell something in it.

    Hope that helped

I think you should try to send a message like this "Hi my friend, long time no see, How have you been? We must go drinking coffee sometimes" or some kinds like that (sorry my english is not good). They will think you are an old friend and they will give you a reply.

So you will know which email is real.

    Hope that helped

This is a very good response. Thank you. I was just looking for some help as well.

If you are going to use a test server to validate by investing in a VPS, SMTP, etc which could cost money with setup, how do you make sure that server isn't flagged too soon as a spam box?

And if there are any tips for newbies to stay clean, what would that tip be?

    Thank you.
