Is there a free tool I can use to check my rankings for my keywords before I undertake a big SEO / back link campaign? I want to be able to compare the difference before and after.

Google analytics is also another reporting platform, this helps and gives you support to check the current status of your site like number of visitors and stuff...

I have the free version of Traffic Travis but couldn't figure out how to do it.

I just used google position check and seoserp.com and apparently my website is not ranking in google. I'm confused, surely it must be ranking SOMEWHERE in their results even if it is buried under hundreds of thousands of other results! What's going on?

I use Google Chrome, Incognito to check my rankings. If you have to go past Page 5 to find your listing, it's not worth checking in the first place IMO. Checking rankings past that point will just drive you nuts.

I recommend SerpBook .. It's paid, but depending on the size of your keyword list, you can track your rankings day by day, for just a few bucks! I have the 50 keyword package and that's $11 per month if I remember correctly.

Again, if I remember correctly, there is a $3-4 package aswell which lets you track 10 keywords

I'm using SEScout, have stuck in my URL and my keywords, it doesn't seem to be giving me any data. Has said for well over an hour now 'Gather data (up to 1 hour)' to the right of each keyword but no data is coming up. There's a little [+] icon to the right of each keyword that when I click on says 'not found'.

Can anyone explain how this works or what it means?

Are you sure your website is in the first 500 results? If you're unsure if the tools are working add your url as a keyword. As long as your site is indexed they should return something.

No I've no idea if it's on first 500 results, will it not show otherwise?
