Go to your google webmaster account and add your new domain. Then register a domain change request from the old site to the new. Then copy the old site to new and do 301 redirect for each of your post to the new site with the same url. You should catch up within a month without any charge of content duplication :)

    Shriya,

G0g0l points out how to change the site being tracked in webmaster tools however if you want to change your domain name, you simply buy a new one and configure your DNS settings where the domain is registered to point where your website is hosted. If you are purchasing a domain name through the same provider that is hosting your site, then you should be able to add it from within their administration panel.

Note that you don't have to do any redirects if you aren't worried about SEO. In fact if the site is new and hasn't been indexed yet I wouldn't worry about redirecting anything. You should however make the change in webmaster tools if the first website was in there.

This site contains a tutorial about applying a new domain name to a website,

    http://www.thesitewizard.com/archive/registerdomain.shtml

    Hope that helps,

    Shawn

you can copy your content from your old domain to new and use the canonical link element. when this rel="canonical" element is used the issue of duplicate content can be avoided.

That won't work unless you at-least permanently forward the old domain to the new domain and his/her site can even get banned by Google for doing that only. Mind what you're saying..
