It's probably a dns matter if you don't have some .htaccess code redirecting the non-www to www subdomain. Go to your domain's registrar and remove the www subdomain in your dns records and you won't have it anymore. Or you can specify in your .htaccess file

    Code:
    RewriteCond %{HTTP_HOST} ^www\.example\.com [NC]
    RewriteRule ^(.*)$ http://example.com/$1 [L,R=301]

which will redirect all incoming http://www.domain.com traffic to http://domain.com

looks like both to me. I use a .htaccess file to choose one or the other.. mostly with www but that may be me just being old school.

    RewriteEngine on
    RewriteCond %{HTTP_HOST} !^www\.
    RewriteRule ^(.*)$ http://www.%{HTTP_HOST}/$1 [R=301,L]

Some Web site owners want to make sure that only one address is used. For example, if a visitor goes to example.com, you may want them to be automatically redirected to www.example.com, or vice versa.

Keep in mind that setting up redirection can be tricky, especially if you use subdomains or domain name aliases that point another domain name to your Web site. In fact, it can lead to Web page errors if it is not done correctly.

Therefore, the following changes are not recommended for most users. You should only make these changes if you know how to edit .htaccess files and have a good understanding of the Apache mod_rewrite module.
    RewriteEngine On
    RewriteCond %{HTTP_HOST} ^example.com [nocase]
    RewriteRule ^(.*) http://www.example.com/$1 [last,redirect=301]

It's not launching nuclear weapons its simple htaccess file that with a quick Google and a bit of research you can know all there is to know. I disagree most people should use it as its the simplest option most can do them self and save a lot of valuable time.
