How to change my DNS while having a cable modem, without calling ISP

I'll get straight to the point, i'm new here to the forums, and i'm wondering how I can change my DNS of my ISP to something else, without calling them. A free total method, (I want to stick with my ISP). There's a chat room I suspect MAY, just MAY report me to my ISP for ban evasion, or something stupid. Most likely stupid stupid.

I think my ISP will warn me, hopefully but I don't want them finding out it was me or anything. So if I do get reported, I wantt o change my DNS so they can't trace me. I'm not sure if they will report me, but the moderators are surely blockheads.

You can change your dns in your router. How, depends on your router.

i think he means change his IP.
most cable modem co's base IPs on the MAC of your NIC. So you could have to find out how to change the MAC. ;)
 
My router?I do have a router, but I don't use it. Don't need too, however if I do connect my router to my computer. IF they do report me to my ISP, can my ISP find me, if I connect my router to my computer to replace the DNS?
 
uh, yes. yes they can. most ISP's log what cable modem MAC address had an IP. Your Cable modem MAC address is tied to your cable provider's account.
 
And no, I mean the DNS. That's how chat rooms, and IRC chats know you right? By your DNS? For example ool-634753y363f.xfl.telonline.net. Somethign like that, that's how chat room's, forums, and IRC chats know how to report your ISP. I want it so if my they report me to my ISP, I have long changed my information for my ISP not to trace me back, and I wouldn't get in trouble.

Will changing my MAC somehow change my DNS? I do know how to change my IP address.

What about NetBios? Anything I can do with that, to hide?

I think you're looking for blackhat hacking forum and this is blackhat webmaster forum. Got mixed these two up.

DNS stands for Domain Name Server and what you're trying to do is change your IP address which is impossible if you have static IP. Dynamic IPs change each time you (re)connect to the internet.

Your IP address is to PC what your address is to your home. You can't change it without moving elsewhere so don't bother trying. Having a static IP is like having a mansion, it's there for life (so to speak). On the other hand, having a dynamic IP is like being homeless. Everybody knows you're living in Los Angeles but nobody can find you if you don't go public for everybody to see you.

You can, of course, use IPv6 and add a domain name to show instead of your usual IP address if you want to look cool on Irc but that's it. There's nothing more you can do about it because IPs are assigned by IPS providers.

MAC address is an address of your NIC/network adapter. If you have cable connection then forget about changing your IP but if you have DSL then maybe there's hope because DSL takes an IP directly from the NIC card so theoretically you can change your IP by changing your MAC address but that all depends whether your ISP allows that.

There's always hiding behind proxies, rooted boxes or getting a new IP. Google is your friend.

Well if you have a lynxsys router you can spoof your mac adress to aquire a new IP adress.

why would you want to change your dns, doing so would not allow you to make new connections. changing your cabel modems mac address will not necessarily change the ip of your computer, only the ip of your cabel modem, changing the mac of your network card on your computer will change your computers ip only if you are directly connected to your modem, if you are behind a router then you would have to change the mac address of the router. but, i believe what you are trying to do is change your hostname on irc, that is how people on irc recognize you, example [email protected] your.ircdz.com, in order to do this you would need to hack a shell account or rent one that allows you to run background process' preferably BNC, with this you can bounce into irc with the hostname of the shell account. note some shell accounts have many different hostnames to choose from.
