    Hey!

I found a domain that is expiring in 2 months and I would really like to own it. The domain is 1 year old and is currently not linking to any server. How would I go about making sure that I am the future owner of this domain in case the current owner doesn't extend it?

You can use a Domain backorder service like

    • DomainMonster
    • Go Daddy
    • Hexonet
Free backorder; only pay $69 upon successful registration
    • NameJet
Free backorder; only pay $69 ($59 if first to backorder) upon successful registration
    • Pheenix
    • Pool
Free backorder; only pay $60 upon successful registration
    • SnapNames
Free backorder; only pay $69 upon successful registration

The backorder process is fairly straightforward, but it can take some time to deliver the domain to you. While it is possible for a webmaster to skip the backorder process and try to catch the domain when it drops, it is hard to get a successful backorder in that fashion

You could try contacting the registrant as well. Even with whois guard on it I believe they will forward the email. I've gotten complaint one's before that were forwarded to me on sites I have whois guard enabled.

Do you get the money back instantly if you fail to obtain the domain?

I don't now all services but in some of them you pay after you get your domain so you don't need to worry if you get your money back

You have two options, contacting the owner and have a deal, or backorder the domain name with many drop-catchers..

You can either contact the current domain registrar of the domain or you can contact the owner of the domain. If these is whois privacy then you will need to be in touch with the current domain registrar.

Backordering is one option for you.
