Ok. I have gotten a HUGE list of .sql database lists. My question now is how do I go about creating a database site? If there is previous posts about this I am sorry for asking but I was unable to find any information regarding this specifically. If you have a thread link please post it, or if you have any information on what I should do next please also post:D

If you're not coherent with them, look up php and mysql and put them together to build your database sites.

I will look into that, I was under the impression you needed some sort of script. Say I use the baby_names list, am I going to have a page for every different name?

if the sql databases you have are form script driven sites then , just get the script install it and then import your database to it.

Or create you own little script that connect to the datbase make a requets and echo the results. For that you can either get a coder from here odeor you just start coding it yourself. If you need a little starting help ... check: tizag.com

--> check the tutorial on PHP and mysql ... with that knowledge and a little trial and eror you can get started and experience something from the coding world.

Cheers :-)

Haha I was afraid of that. Sooner or later I knew I would be having to learn programming again so better now then never. Thanks for the info guys I appreciate it :) Cheers

If i where you i would get classes
The best way you can learn is if you have someone teaching you

I have done some research on this
As i am interested in it also

But classes over here cost $3000.00+ STARTING
and thats only for one class

If you have the money then register
but if you don't then google it
it really is well documented and somewhat easy/hard to understand
all based on your knowledge of how much you know and how much you dont

Jesus H. Christ! $3000 G's. That's crazy, at least to me. I'd rather take a college course for eighty bucks. I had some what of a mentor previously when I started to intern for this guy who was doing programming on the side of his other programming job. I was learning asp.net, php, and C# all at once. Got too much so I left after a few weeks. I learned some php but not nearly enough to do anything with it. It was cool though that guys was a Guru, I wish I still was doing that now :o

If you're good at teaching yourself, check out
Code:

awesome huge library of books on programming, costs $40/month. there's a php/mysql video course there thats great for beginners. Anyway, I learned a lot from it and it was worth it to me to have the convenience of looking up answers fast.

Thanks Bruce, but heres a site you might want to check out. Im going to post this also hxxp://www.51cnnet.net/

Different people learn in different ways, you don't necessary need a class.

I taught myself PHP from a couple books and I'm pretty good now. I created a catalog site for a public company from scratch in PHP5 with classes (object oriented) and separate data, logic and presentation layers (with smarty templates)

Check out L y n d a.com, they have great video tutorials for everything else, I'm sure their PHP tutorial will be good to get you through the basics. It's on public trackers.

What you are trying to do is pretty basic. Connect to the database, query the db for the data and populate a template page. It shouldn't take you long to figure it out.

I was under the impression you needed some sort of script. Say I use the baby_names list, am I going to have a page for every different name?

Yes you are going to need a page for each name, thats the point of a database site. I think what you are asking is are you going to have to create and upload a separate page for each name. The answer to that question is no, you only need to make one template page and your script populates it with the appropriate info for each name.

Thanks megabump.you gave me a lot of info I needed.have you checked out the site I posted?

Yes, is that your site?

I use pdfchm.com when I need a book, or I search for a torrent.

No, but I wish it was. It's a great site. I'm going to check that site out now
