    Hi,

I hope someone can help me with some advice.

I'm designing an e-commerce site on a sub-domain. When I'm finished, I want to put the design on an entirely different domain.

Can anyone tell me how this is done? Presumably, all of the links will be different and cause problems.

Never use absolute links, only relative. Then, the domain does not matter.

If you are keeping the same webhost then just zip all the files of the subdomain folder using cpanel and unzip it to the root folder of your new domain then change the base uri using phpmyadmin/mysql. Base uri location varies depending on the e-commerce platform you are using.
And if the webhosting is also changed then apart from what I said above, you will also need to export .sql from current webhost and import it to new one. Additionally you will also need to change/edit the configuration file too (if any).

Thanks a lot for that! I was entirely confused about the process, and dreading the complexity, but that all seems very straight-forward. Nice one!

What e-commerce platform are you using?

If you're using cPanel you can drag and drop files using the file manager. No need to zip them.

You can also change the site URL in the CMS configuration from the sub domain to the root domain before you move the files over. No need to mess with MySQL directly.

You can change the base URL of the script you are using. I have a better idea, in case you know what domain you will actually be using for your site.
Just setup wampserver on your computer and add the following lines at the last line of your host file located here:
    C:\Windows\System32\Drivers\etc

    To Add:
    Code:
    127.0.0.1 YOURSITENAME .EXT

    and start developing

For the same host just copy and paste. If host differ than first export DB and import in the destination host
