I have this, one keyword, I would like to rate in the top 3 of google organic searches. So far I've figured out that the guy at the 1's spot have some blog links to his site, with the related keyword. But that is about all he got, he's site is very primitive. My problem is that I don't really know how to get his spot.. Do I simply do the same, find\create blogs and backlink with the keyword? didn't think that would matter much anymore?

This is my first post here, hope I'am doing it right:cow04:

You want to make sure that you don't use the same keyword over and over again to link back to your site. The worst thing you can do is only using your main keyword. thats just unnatural in Googles eyes.

You are asking about the Holy grail of internet marketing. Everyone is trying to do the same. There are different ways in link building sections of this forum. But no one method is right. So just build links with your targeted key word.

Welcome to BHW.
First of all, where are you in the serp? There's ways your no.1 guy could be using that are not easily seen, such as 301 redirects.
Are you saying you didn't think backlinks matter anymore?

Thanks for all your replies, I know I know, it's not easy to be #1, there's only room for 1 of them :)
Maby he is using 301's? I know he has some dude doing he's seo. But what I really don't understand is that my page is not even in ->#100 on the given keyword. And all the pages I've come by is just small 1-5 pages info sites of small business without webshops, hell most of them must be made in the late 90's with pure html and no content.

So I'm just starting to get a little frustrated, having tried to make genuine forum posts and what not.. Nice pieces of informational texts on the site with the keyword, without directly stuffing the page..

Well to be honst I was just hoping for some hints, clues on what I might do, without going all black about it.

Competition of your keywords? How many syllabus? You can check out SEO packages or link building section for forumers offering SEO services.

Yes,to get position in top 3, You can to target any of those 3 site. Just go through with their link building and try to find that from which sources they have build links. Now, You have to simply knock out the links counts which they have build.

But, remember one thing - All things should be done in natural and organic ways, Nothing should be look like suspicious or blackhat.

Alright! Try building niche relevant backlinks to the page with the use of targeted keywords, Don't expect overnight results & make sure, that you're not building quantity of links or spammy links.

Agree With OP, Don't expect overnight result..

it wont happened overnight as many people stated. Next to incoming links which play the largest roll, you also need to make sure your website loads faster then your competition. The best way to know how fast your website loads is to use this tool http://developers.google.com/speed/pagespeed/insights/ which will tell you what you need to improve on your website.

As expected, you won't get the kind of answers that you may be after. But in order to worry about crossing top 3 results, you should first make your way to the first page at least or else you are simply asking without wanting to try something out. Build links and index them to start crawling upwards.

You need to do the things as much as your competitor did. It depends upon on the keyword competition, choose keywords such as low competition with higher search result. When your site is good at On page SEO factors then it would be easy to rank. Alongside you have to build backlinks by Guest posting, social media shares etc..

assuming you have quality content like the #1 site has;

1- go to ahrefs
2- examine your competitor's backlinks
3- get BETTER ones than his or her

do not go for having ordinary backlinks blindly.

Get links from some established higher pr pages and you will notice the jumps that you require provided that your onpage is better than your competition.

- don't target the same keyword. use two or three long tail keywords and build backlinks to each keywords. so you are safe also getting good result.
- get competitors backlinks report and try to get link from them also better than that sites.

This is not true. This happens naturally all the time e-com product category pages. Not all pages generate organic variants in link text.

Syndicated blog articles usually don't have organic variants.

Links in comments and forum posts do have variants. So really it depends what you are publishing and how you are promoting it.
