How to block twitter bot from hit count stats?

The twitter bot screws up the stats on the network destroying your real epc with hundreds of false hits.

I have been blocking it with a cloaker script but that causes an extra hop which will slow down the redirect.

I wonder if there is a better way to do it.

I heard that it can be done with .htaccess but not sure how?
