    Hi All,

Trying my hand at an authority site, most of it i've figured out but before i want to get serious i have one issue.
With most of the keywords that i've selected the SERPS are taken by Amazon, Walmart, Ebay etc. (not other article sites).

In what ways could i outrank them?

My first thought was with social sharing, 90% of the pages that outrank me have zero social presence.

    Any tips?

    Thanks

Is not that easy as it seems, but not impossible. You have to create a strong content, then mix social signals (drip feed them) with backlinks. Try to emulate the viral effect.

The normal way you would outrank other pages. SEO and social signals. Try at least getting started with an aged and sort of authoritative domain.

I am working on the exact same thing now a days. So far my rule is = 1 non-authority domain within top 10 Google results for a keyword means you can beat the authority domain.

Although, it's not impossible to beat high authority sites, it's going to be tough and requires hard work, tons of hard work :D

Ya its possible. It might take a little longer with a new site but it's possible. I have 1 website ranking for searches like that and I got higher rankings just by building backlinks. The only social signals I did was to create Twitter, Pinterest and Google+ account. All with a mix of real/fake followers. At first I did updates every few days on my social accounts but now do it once every 6 month or so and my site is still ranking

Only possible way is having a landing page that is FAR more tailored to the exact niche and keyword than Amazon/Walmart. This isn't always possible, thus it may not be possible.

So for something like "sex toys for the elderly" you could beat Amazon if they just had an unrelated dildo ranking #1. But for "pink fleshlight" you can't because they will have that exact product and its very relevant.
