i have read some forum posts about streaming websites and people are earning from them some people also feared the copyrights laws and punishments etc.

I have following confusions (some others may have too) can some expert please throw light on them in the with respect to being caught by security agencies and courts?

1: What if we are not storing/holding the content and we are just providing links to download movies and those links are not ours.

2: What if we are being paid by bitcoin? we are still traceable?

3: What about using Mac spoofers and VPNs are we on safe side?

4: If for example big companies tries to stop us and they file the cases then what about the punishments? which jurisdiction rules will be followed? will they punish a person according to his country's rules? or will they insist the respective country to handover that person to them and then take him/her to their country and punish according to the rules of that country?

5: What are the chances of being punished if we are in third world countries like India,Pakistan,Bangladesh?

PS: the main purpose of the website will be downloading and only 5-10% is streaming.

Usually on a third world country you're safe even if you have a big streaming website, the downside is you can't leave your country because odds are you will be taken into custody as soon as you land on another country. I know a guy who owns a big streaming website and he has a ton of money, but can't leave the country because of it.

My friend lives in Morocco, and he doesn't quit the country because he had a friend in Algeria who owned a big streaming website, and as soon as he went from Algeria to France he was taken into custody with no warning whatsoever.

1: Technically legal if you are not the one uploading the content since you would be only passing on the information where the content is located. You can just say it's freedom of expression and information. Illegal if you are the one uploading. However, they will still say you were helping others to commit a crime independently of what you were doing and will try to prove it in any way they can.

2. There are ways to trace bitcoin. There are also ways to make it harder to trace bitcoin. Law enforcement would have to pay you to trace where the bitcoins will be transferred to. They can still try to know where the money is going to by tracing the IP doing the transfer requests or something like that. Depends on several factors such as the Wallet used, and others. Use another cryptocurrency more private if you can.

3. Use a VPS + Tor whenever possible. Pay in bitcoins via VPN, also paid via bitcoins. Otherwise, you risk yourself being traced, easily. They just have to follow the money.

Alternatively. Use a phone without a SIM card connected to an anonymous Wi-FI connected to Tor or the anonymous VPN you pay via bitcoins. The bitcoins payment must be done by a wallet not associated to you in any way if you want to remain anonymous.

4. Depends. Look at the case of Megaupload. Sometimes the law does not even follow their own law.

5. I don't know.

Oh and... don't brag about it when you succeed. Don't say what you have and how much you gain per month. Keep your head down and to yourself. It's nobody's business. The competition will report you.

Don't talk about your business via known public service that have a backdoor. Remember, even if they can't know what you are saying, they can follow the metadata. A VPS and a chat software to keep messages private between team members would be the safest choice.

  1. Depends on the country you are in, if you are in the EU: yes, even for providing links you will get sued.
  2. Depends on, unless you are using some service like coinmixer, no.
  3. Thats not really relevant, because you would technically only connecting you your own server, so thats not relevant.
  4. There is no absolute answer to this.
  5. Close to none (from my perspective). If you live in one of these countrys and your site is not the largest one, its likely nothing will happen.
