I was talking to a friend of mine who works for a major youtube partner network. He says that this is how networks work:
Ad agency pays $10 for ad to be clicked
Youtube takes 50% of this revenue
Network takes at least 50% (his network takes 80% on average)
Analytics shows this amount (after they take their cut). It appears as though you're making $1 (or whatever) per 1000 now. Network then takes another amount. (The amount they have noted in the contract with you. If you have a good deal, its probably like 80%/20% split.)
What networks don't tell you is the amount they take before the analytics amount shows up. I was surprised about this. I thought I was getting a good deal with a 90/10 split with my network only to find out they take the 80% out before hand. All networks do this. Ask what the amount is before signing the contract. A 90/10 or 80/20 might sound great but you might find out later they take 80% beforehand while another network only takes 50%
