I have the option of creating a subdomain off a domain that was created in 2004. I'd be able to put my entire keyword in the subdomain portion but I'd prefer to put only the broad term (health vs weightloss) since the domain itself is pretty long already. Should I do that or get a domain that has my phrase in it with addition to a filler (topkeyword.com vs keyword.com)

What would have more weight in Google's eyes given everything else is the same?

Go for the old domain. Exact match will loose value pretty fast now I think. It´s one of those things which will be hit hard by panda 3.0 or whatever you want to call it.

I was going to ask if one of the main perks that it's less of a prone to being sandboxed to high hell if I blast it like crazy.

EMDs will only lose its value if you build a micro niche site around it and then waiting for the ranking to rise with minimal backlinks. Unless you have concrete backings, stop spreading the "the sky is falling" crap.

Depends on your linkstrategy. If you like to be aggressive and blast the f... out of your domain, then go for a old one.

If you don't have the time or tools to have a aggressive linksstrategy, then just go with the EMD.

If it's for learning purpose go with EMD , if you are a serious in IM and want to blast backlinks then go for old...

The best strategy is to go for both ^^

I still have yet to see EMD losing any value. Mine are all doing very well and when I do research with niches I still see a ton of EMD's ranked on the first page with much less SEO than others.

Stop taking everyone's words a gospel on these forums. Do the research yourself.
