Depends on your niche and amount of traffic you think you can receive safety.

Just link build yourself and let the extra crap come naturally.

Always be linking. If you have too I'd slam a 301 with those links on day one but would never directly hit my site fresh out of the gate with that amount. Do something you could add 3-5% to weekly. As an example 50 this week 55 next week 58 the next week and so on until it naturally picks up.

Why rush a good site?

As soon as the content is up and ready to go I start.

No point in waiting.

I wait 7-10 days but no one has ever proved or disproved that starting immediately is a bad thing.

thanks dude.

when creating a 301, could i use a subdomain of my main domain (since theyre treated as separate sites)? i've never done a 301 before so im not really sure.

edit: nevermind, not gonna mess with 301 right now

When doing 301 on new sites I usually try to get an older domain.

I tend to go easy on a new domain for about the first month or so. I'll submit it to all the major social bookmarking sites and also link to it from the sites social media pages. Then after the month, I'll continue updating the blog page of my site with content and build web 2.0 links. Then after a few more weeks I'll reach out to other blog owners and ask them for a link. But my sites are of a high caliber than the usual spammy "rank and bank" sites.

My best tip? (Even though it has nothing to do with building backlinks): Make sure your site is WORTH a spot on the first page. I'm trying my best NOT to say "content is king" because it's NOT! I truly agree with Derek Halpern when he says "design is king!"

My opinon: These 2 quoted posts combined.

I tend to get the content up that takes around 7-10 days and then I start the linkk building :)

First and foremost, you should start link building only when your site is ready. Once you get your website/blog all setup with a layout, quality content and the right keywords/phrases implemented in the structure of the site, you can start link building.

Well, that depends.

If your website contains lots of sharable content, that can potentially generate such number of links, Google won't find that suspicious. However, if you have a content-thin website, it's not a good idea to start building links to it.

Also (which is even more important), consider the quality of links you will get getting! Spammy, low-quality links, coming from irrelevant websites will bring your site down in any case.

And remember.

Link building is not something you should launch into without doing some planning. Surely, there are some critical areas you should consider before launching your campaign: e.g. you need to assess how competitive your market place is, what link building strategies your competitors are using, where the best opportunities for really high quality links in your space are, etc.

I usually start link building once my sites gets indexed.

Interesting. I often read about to take it very easy in the first month (no high PR links, no KW as anchors but just the raw URL mixed with some other anchors etc.)

Will give it a try.

first concentrate on content. You can think about link building after you will have 50-100 quality articles.

As soon as I have a decent amount of content I could link to.

This is my link schedule:

Day 1: build WP
Day 2: Write content
Day 3: Write content
Day 4: Write content
Day 5: Write content
Day 6: Index all content
Day 7-14: Build Tier 1; ~10 links per day
Day 14+: Build all tiers

What kind of Tier 1s are you building that early? Dont you use Social signals?

Till site got indexed, till site have enough content so about a week.
