Any opinion? I am looking to purchase a torrent site for around 10k. Actually, I dont have much knowledge about torrent sites
So, I was wondering if it is legal, if there are hosting issues, maintenance thing, is it payment processor friendly, etc etc.

I am based in india if that helps

plz share ur knowledge so that I can take a good decision on this thing. Thks in advance!!

    {Edit Post: New update below)

Regarding legality, the seller tells me that its legal becoz no data or files are hosted by the site. The torrent site deals with the process of searching, and not necessarily the content.

Can anyone from bhw tell if the seller is actually true

It should be okay. Remember to check your laws on running that site. If you run into trouble, change the domain. You should not run into problems with hosting considering their are plenty people that will host for a fee. Make sure information is not given to the people you don't want tracking you. Keep in mind the maintenance will most likely be where your money gonna go such as hosting. Never ran one but gone to them for years to know how to stay up.

If you don't know much about it then don't put 10k into it.

You have to look at a lot of things like offshore webhsoting, offshore domain registrar and the most important, you should also be living in an offshore country if you want to play safe.

If you're serious about going through with this, then shell out a few extra bucks for a good IP attorney in your area and have them help you through the process. A good attorney will be able to assist you in taking advantage of certain loopholes and setting up the business in such a way so as to minimize your chances of getting assfucked by any infringement claims down the line.

Before investing that kind of money take some precautions and get some legal advice. I'm not sure where you're residing but based on your local laws it could become a disaster.

Torrents in and of themselves are not illegal (at least not in the US.) However, it is illegal to aid in the distribution or dissemination of copyrighted or protected content. This is why great care needs to be taken in the way you set the site up after purchasing it. There's always going to be risks, but you need to focus on minimizing those risks as much as possible. As I said in my previous post, a good intellectual property attorney would be able to help you, but it's not going to be cheap (most good IP attorneys in the US charge between $350 - $1500 an hour, I'm not sure what they run in the UK.)

If you don't have access to good legal help, then stay away from this project. It wouldn't take much for you to lose your initial $10k and more if somebody ever decided to go after you.

Wise words...with 10k you can buy alot of decent websites...where you keep them for like 3-4 months and get your money back then flip them.

torrent site sounds pretty cool, based on where the servers are hosted you'd have advantages and disadvantages in terms of the law. just my thought.

i personally would stay away, there are easier businesses. 10k/day visitors is nice. Check with a lawyer, offshore everything. Trace what host existing sites are using. Check what tips are available for running such a site online.
