50 per day? 10 per day? 1 per day? 1 per week?

What do you guys think is a safe volume for a brand new page on a new domain?

    the faster the better

depends how many links u have in total. no point to speed up if you can only afford 500 links this month

Wouldn't 500 links to a new page set of a red flag with google?

In my opinion, 3 to 5 links per day will be useful for the new site and also do it random methods. At 1st day drop 3 links, 2nd day drop 5 links, 3rd day 2 links and so on.

IMO, you should first know how many you need (if you're trying to rank where the 5 first results only have X links, you dont need 5-6 times more than them), second I will try to think what would make sense naturally to your type of site (if you're creating an ecommerce that sells worldwide, you can expect more reference than a local business that sells black glasses to blind people in a small town). Third, like Titans said, try to randomize stuff, if you think you need X backlinks, don't make all of them from the same source (blogs for example). Try to make everything look as legit as possible, and priorities quality over quantity, I think that google algorithms are smarter than just specific, "cold" numbers to effect all cases.

Also, bear in mind that you can simulate some sort of "virality".
Let's say I'm publishing a new blog post that's super-duper awesome. How would Google detect that this new post is viral? Through links. Pre-posting, you should "prepare" the sites that you're going to get the links from. Those may include your other sites, friends, bloggers etc. etc. - but only high quality and relevant sites
Once you publish the post, you remind them to link to you and watch your rankings.

Regarding the social impact, I'd recommend doing the same over social media - alert everyone on your list that you'll publish something cool.

I've done this with numerous posts and although it doesn't work every time, I've got a money keyword(AMS 22,000) ranking in position 1. #2 is the brand(a competitor), #3 is wikipedia.

    Good luck

I don't think Google really cares that much about how quickly you build links. I started diversifying about 2 -3 weeks after creating a site and nothing happened. As long as you don't go crazy with it and blast a few hundred or thousand links a day too quickly, you will be fine

I am testing this right now on a small scale, but from what I can tell so far there is a difference. Google insists on ranking another, yet similar page for a keyword I'm targeting with a new piece of content that is far more relevant to the query. This rarely happens as I understand keyword cannibalization and LSI... but even after building some very high profile links to the page, it is still not ranking. It is indexed, but I built links that were indexed even quicker than to the page it was pointing to, weirdly enough. Its now been over a month, and it is still not ranking where it should be. The content that G is ranking at the moment is not relevant, nor has it been optimized. The strangest part about all this, is that the page that got indexed did rank on page 1 fr a week or so before going to purgatory for its desired search term.

Throw a handful of links over a period of time then wait to see where you rank then continue linking accordingly.

Those would be PBN links, I presume? If those are your only links, how do you go about anchor text, how much exact match do you use? Thanks.

I ramp things up slow and inline with search traffic velocity. My logic is a natural site can only earn links if it is actually getting real visits.

Totally depends on what my plan is.
I'm working on a long-term authority project, I don't "build" links, I instead just issue a press release every time I publish a massive guide(approx bi-monthly). And I do a ton of social shares.

I'm working on an Amazon affiliate site and usually do approx 10 links to every post, ranging from within 1-3 days of publication, and when I do a post-roundup style post I usually then will do a link building style to simulate "viral" and will within 1 week build 100-300 links. I slowly drip in my PBN links on older posts(usually starting a month after I built the last link to it). I also manually build 10-15 forum posts about each post on active niche relevant forums.

My personal business page, I syndicate all my content immediately to 10 places, which gives me 10 backlinks(mix of do and no follow), then I usually drip 4-5 d0follow backlinks over a month, but I only publish a blog post a month there.

So, I told you all that, to tell you this.
It only matters what works for you, on your project and for your niche.
My authority site is in a highly competitive niche, and I am planning to build it over 3 yrs and get recognized as a cited authority in the niche through hardcore social sharing.
My Amazon site is in a no/low comp niche, so I built my linking plan to mimic my competitors strategies and give me an edge through better on-site.
My personal business site's backlinking plan is designed to get my information out there to where my customers can find it easier and follow my backlinks, because most aren't googling for the information.

So, really, it comes down to what kind of site you're building and what your competition analysis and customer analysis shows is the way to get your information in front of them.
