Hi,

Anyone know how old the data in Google adwords keyword tool is? my guess is 3 month but can anyone confirm?
the reason is we have a site that google says have 33.000 excat search each month but we recive 150.000 visitors from google organic on that search term.

The data are not only months old, but they are based on yearly traffic "estimations" (divided by 12 to give "monthly" figures).

These data actually give you an indication when you compare several keywords, but the actual numbers should only be taken lightly :)

Thanks Zak

That makes sense.. well i do take it lightly but it is a big differense of 33k and we can get 150.000 for a #1 if we only get 35% of the searches then there must be 450.000 that search that word a month :)

Yeah the difference on this particular one is huge.

I don't know what your keyword is, but I'd bet it's either something quite new so the searches grew in the past weeks/months, or maybe it's a seasonal keyword so the bulk of the traffic came now and in six months you'll get near 0.

If this is not the case, then the data were really crap for that one :)

I think the data is at best only indicative and I have often thought it must be accumalative over 6 months or more so thanks ZAK A for clearing that up.
Can you answer BALDOR if the keyword you are talking about is new, therefore this being the reason that the figures are so way off? It would be interesting to know. Maybe it would show the keyword tool to be not as omportant as many think.

i've been wondering the same, but I think it's quite recent, not more than 3 months imo
