I have read a lot here about what a great blog should contain but I havent come across anything that deals with how often you should blog.

With a new blog and aiming to self write (at first at least) to make sure content is original and interesting (hopefully to someone besides myself) I dont want to go mad and blog a lot at the cost of quality.

So, my question is how often do you guys blog?

    Thanks

    Scourser1968,

This could vary depending on your audience (or your intended audience) however a good rule of thumb is to be posting at least twice a week. Your goals for posting should also be many. For instance you want to post in order to target a wider array of keyword phrases, you want to be an authority in your niche and you want to add fresh content for search engines to index. You also want to share your content so people will come to your website.

Some niches demand updated content on a daily basis (i.e. celebrity blogs, news blogs, etc) whereas others may only need to be updated weekly for seo purposes. Sometimes you may be able to have a significant benefit only posting once every couple weeks. You definitely don't want to sacrifice quantity for quality though. In the world of content, if you can't do it right its not worth doing at all.

Maybe you can get some ideas here,

    Hope that answers your question,

I blog 1-2 longer blog posts (1200-1500 words) a week, and have a few list posts (top 5, reviews, toolls etc.) on auto maybe 1-2 times a week.

I would initially get 5 or so posts, then write a new one at least once a week

One of my clients blogs once per week and has incredible ROI for his services. You must hire a highly educated person to write if you don't have the skills required. If you have poor English don't bother. People will dismiss you as an idiot.

you blog to search out longtail keywords. Thats about it....Im not sure if there is such a thing as posting too much. Once you have an audience then you deliver tailored content to your audience.
