Ive just read a pdf that says googles panda update checks a site once every 30 days.

Is this true though? it seems unlikely to me, i didnt think it was that regular.

if google sees you add and change content often, it will visit more often and if it sees nothing new it will visit less often...

but, log into your cpanel, then use Awstats which produces visual statistics about visitors of your site and look at the section that is Robots/Spiders visitors and you can see for yourself...

Panda doesn't visit. The googlebot spider/crawler does.

Panda is the name that's been given to the 3 algorithm updates during 2011 which have targeted web-spam; mostly affecting non-themed sites like article directories and middle-man sites like buying sites which purely catalogue other site's pages. Panda has also increased the chances of over optimisation for many EMD/PMDs.

Very crappy ebook..... I hope you did not pay anything for it.

At least you had enough sense to come ask for clarification, always think about the info you read both in some ebook and even here on the forum. Look at the person giving the advice and even then think about it and if at all possible test to see how it works for you. There is no one size fits all solutions so what works for one person/niche might not work for you or your niche.

    Read
    Think
    Test
    Scale

I just assumed the use of the word panda was just referring to google just another word for the googlebot spider. oh well

Thanks Volund for pointing out something that I usually remember to!

Test & Measure! Never trust anyone's advice over your own solid empirical evidence; there are so many variables.

And watch those dodgy e-books, 2008-2010 saw a whole industry devoted to churning out useless hogwash disguised as truth...
