It seems like an easy white hat method of buying links (and maybe a small amount of traffic) for local businesses is via chamber of commerce. I recommended a client of mine to register in their home city (the first one). They asked me about other cities and I said I'd do more research.

So, how much would you pay to join a chamber of commerce directory? Are they worth it solely for the links? I figure many of you might have wondered this which is why I am asking.

Here are some examples (they are all do-follow):
  1. $250/yr: DR 38 | RD 350 (80k population, home city in suburbs, 100k income)
  2. $550/yr: DR 71 | RD 3412 (1m pop, main city)
  3. $250/yr: DR 45 | RD 793 (130k pop, avg income)
  4. $250/yr: DR 42 | RD 438 (60k pop, 70k income)
  5. $200/yr: DR 37 | RD 237 (60k pop, 90k income)
  6. $295/yr: DR 37 | RD 294 (30k pop, covers many)
  7. $250/yr: DR 22 | RD 167 (3k pop, VERY high income)
Total cost: $2k/yr or $170/mo

I would pay $2k for these backlinks if it was a one time fee. But I HATE recurring fees.

What I am thinking of doing is to recommend that my client joins all of them for 1 year. If they get no leads from that city after 1 yr, cancel the subscription. The thing is that one good lead per year from ALL combined would make it profitable.

If the client is ok paying 2k on something that may not work, I would definitely go for it.
170$/month for an option to get you leads and with good backlink, if you are good at SEO and you feel that’s good, go for it.
