Depend on niche and type of product. If it's something unique and has potential to make million or billion of $$$ you can sell it for millions.

@mirrorer : Thanks, Yes this products now made for company where i worked, 100 000 EUR in 2 months, but I don't know what price will be good to sell it for competitor, I'm scared about high price, but don't like low price.. here is the problem... :D

Am I the only person who thought the OP was trying to sell pictures of dead bodies?

It is easy, show your client a sample of the goods and let him form an educated opinion.
You can't really estimate how much they will earn with your information, only the client himself can estimate a reasonable price.

How ever, you say it earned €100k in 2 months, if that is pure profits that means €50k/month in PROFITS.
I would go with at least 2/3 times the years value in profits, so at least 24x50k=1.2mil

    Hope this helps

Prenub: I agree with the first part completly, but the second part led me to this pointless rant. :p

So by your logic if you stole a Microsoft OS, you'd go to Apple and try to sell it for 2/3 the net profit of Microsoft for that year? Bad example but imagine if they both only profited from a single OS. The information he holds might only improve the other companys profit by 3%, so imaging that both companys made the same amount it might not be worth that 66.7%.

You would be right, if the business intelligence or corporate spy game worked like you described. Actually what the OP client would do with the information is rinse it and create a new product based on the intelligence they have gathered.
Let's say you are Microsoft and you see a new phenomenon emerged called web browsing.
Now let's say this gets introduced by a company called Netscape.
If Microsoft only could reverse engineer their product and build their own to completely take over a market. That would be great, no?

Now what if Microsoft doesn't have to reverse engineer this Netscape product but instead pay a angry employee of Netscape to deliver Microsoft the source code of the Netscape product, that would even be better, no?

Btw I meant 2 or 3 times the years net profits not two thirds :p

    Regards

Thanks Guys, I see it is interesting for YOU all.

I could say that products of which I have drawings data and other data, are much better than general competitor products.... :)

BUT, competitor is at market for 10 years I think and have big audience, but low quality products, I think, COMPETITOR can take this great DATA and make much better quality products and earn more money with countries where Competitor didn't sell this products, for example US :) :)

Hmm i think 10 000$ will be great price for drawings and other info..

BUT, what's the best part of this, I want work in competitor company, and this is problem with selling DATA....

I have big ideas how to sell this products through internet, but didn't know how to prove that my ideas will work... =/

Waitin for more answers, thanks BHW !

ok wait what? you are willing to sell info that makes 50k a month for one business to an other company for only 10k? i would love to be on the end of that conference table!
    J/K :)
i think you should get yourself a middleman that will negotiate a number for you. i think the company you are targeting will have a serious trust issue with you and won't hire you.
my advice would be to take the mil and run! get yourself a new identity :p

I'm thinking that their professional negotiators will see you coming, hang you
out to dry, rob you blind and throw you to the wolves.
Who you gonna call? The morals police?
Would you employ someone who just ratted out their last employer?
    Yehhh! alright!
If you're going down that road you may as well hold your last employer to ransom over their
data. Either way you'll never work again if you escape jail.

You're well out of your depth if you're relying on what a friend told you.
I'm pretty sure the jury won't accept that as a defence.

but I didn't leave any signature on contract of my recent job, i only leave signature for simple job recruitment agreement, ( there was is only info that i agree to work for company) WITHOUT any terms.. :) :) , that why i have chance to steal data :)
