I've started to contact local bloggers in the niche I'm now working on, with the intent of getting either guest blog posts or getting them to set-up some affiliate banners on their sites. For the banners I'm planning to make either my own "affiliate system" or set it up via third party, not sure yet, but the blog posts are easier to be handled on pay-per-post basis.

But how much should I pay for them? Let's say the blogs are PR2, rank quite well (within top five) in local Google for some of the most searched keywords with xx-xxx UV's a day. I'd just post like 500 word articles, with 2-3 links back to my site.

Personally, I wouldn't ever pay for a guest post. Both parties are benefiting from the transaction as it is, providing that you are offering content that is of value to their readers.

I get your point, however it's quite hard to see why someone would be willing to get a little content to promote business like that. Personally I'd like to get a little more for myself than some articles, no matter how good, if I was to promote some other website that would be making money with my traffic.

Thanks, but I'm dealing with non-English content so I don't think they can offer that. At least for that price.

But at least gives me some impression about it. Guess I'm better off just offering them my own affiliate-system, as they'd make multiple times that easily.

The tipping point, from experience and anecdotal understanding, seems to be at around a cent per word, so $5 for a 500 word article. That would be the lowest price at which a decent writer will take work on; any less and you'll usually find that the standard of the work reflects the price. Of course, you can pre-review someone's work if they are a blogger, so you can cherry-pick writers and ask them what they'd accept to write a guest post. You might get lucky.
