    Hey guys,

I have a question that I was hoping someone here might have experience with. I'm planning on building a social networking site... having one built actually. I'm trying to figure out a ballpark figure that I could expect to pay a programmer for something like this.

I would go with one of the pre-built systems, but I have a lot of specific functions in the site that I know I would need programmed.

I know this is a very broad question because most social network sites are different, but I'd just like to hear what other people's experience is on this.

Well it really depends on what you have in mind. Building a SN from the ground up is going to cost you at least $10K in my opinion.

You could always use something like Elgg or BuddyPress for Wordpress or something like that, then pay someone to develop the pluggins for those specific functionality.

What are Social Engine? I was thinking about going with that script. It has lots of plug-in options. But, I don't know how reliable and customizable it is.

Do you have a favorite script?
