Hi guys, let's say I own a niche blog about dog training and then a guy who owns a dog training forum contacts me and asks for an advertising spot on my site. He wants to pay 12 months in advance. I'm not really sure if this person knows that my site only gets 50 UV/day (site is gradually growing though). How much should I charge him for these 12 months? Thanks for your help!
So that's about 50x30x12 = 18K UV / year at least With a 2% CTR thats 360 clicks / year . Say you want to sell him at 10cts a click minimum tahts would be $36. Now, tking in account your site will grow, and tahts a really targetted niche, and he's in demand, I would say $100 to $200 for the year.
Unless he's a moron, he's going to follow up wanting statistics. On one hand you're not getting shit for traffic right now, on another if your site is 100x bigger in 6 months you have to figure that in also. So you might feel like you're overvaluing but if you're serious and growing, you can't undervalue either. Hes the one that wants to advance for 12 months, so he's probably betting on your growth potential. So don't sell yourself short, try for something in between what you both think it is worth.
I would suggest you just use adsense or another company but, you should try to get 100 USD from him a month
Your site traffic is pretty low. I don't think he will see much traffic come through from your site based on the stats you've given. Industry wise, CTR is around 1-2%
If you feel his forum is of quality and will be of good use to your visitors then why not do it for free for a while until your site starts to get more traffic. Be honest with him and come to some agreement. The forum could benefit you as much as it does him.
Thank you for your calculation! $200 might be too much. I also think that my site has growth potential that should be considered. Maybe the spot would be worth a lot more in a few months, then I look like an idiot... But on the other hand I can't charge for stuff that is MAYBE going to happen in the future. 2nd person suggestion 100 bucks, thanks! But ads like this are usually nofollowed by the webmaster, aren't they? The forum just started recently. Not much going on there yet. I don't see it as adding big value to my visitors as of right now. I gave everybody a thanks
Maybe it's best to set up a sort of blogroll and get some linkbacks to other dog related websites. Mutual link exchange could benefit you more than whatever you will get paid for the ad spot in terms of long term growth for your website.
Have you ever done media buys? Or even done paid ads in general? You can turn those visitors into $1k a month if you have a converting sales funnel. The dog niche is VERY lucrative. Dog training isn't the only thing you can sell to these people.
If you're only going to charge him $100-$200 for the entire year, it's pretty much a waste of time. Why commit to a measly $8-$16 a month, when you can put up Adsense right now and make that? And not only that, but as your traffic increases, so would your income. Don't sell yourself short, or you'll be regretting it 6 months from now
if we go accordinng to CPM programmes you get 2-3$ for thousand views. lets say your site grows and gets 100 pageviews daily it makes 36500 page views for whole year then morally you should charge him 100 $
If you're not charging at least 2 to 3X the Adsense CPM, you're doing it wrong. Also, traffic increase does not linearly increase Adsense earnings. Google will push more of its cheap ad inventory into your traffic. You double the traffic and Adsense sends you measly 40% more on average.
Hey guys, the guy turned out to be a moron and the 12 months in advantage were a lie. In the end he wanted a system where he would have payed $3.5 per 1k traffic coming from my site. Never laughed so hard in my life. Of course that's a normal price for random low-quality traffic, but for highly-targeted niche traffic it is beyond ridiculous in my opinion.
