I have been doing some email based Clickbank Marketing lately. My list size is around 500, but Iam getting zero conversions.

Any one here , expert in CB and email stuff can shed some light on what should be a good list size to make some decent sales?

This depends on many factors like...

    1. Your niche
    2. The quality of the sales page
    3. The quality of your email messages
    4. The quality of your list (list members are freebie seekers or buyers)
    5. The quality of your relationship with your list members

For instance, I had small lists with just around 400 subscribers and made always a nice profit. And I had lists with 2,000+ subscribers where it wasn't worth the efforts because they were mostly a bunch of freebie seekers.

Once you have bigger lists, you can experimenting.

What I mostly do, is split testing 2 email subject lines and two text versions (one short, one long).

    Let me explain...

    Subject line A
    Subject line B
    Text A (short)
    Text B (long)

Say you have 10,000 subscribers and want to promote an affiliate offer...

    Send out:
    1,000 test emails...Subject line A with Text A
    1,000 test emails...Subject line A with Text B
    1,000 test emails...Subject line B with Text A
    1,000 test emails...Subject line B with Text B

Take the winner, and send it to the remaining 6,000 subscribers.

It might be the poducts you are promoting. Also it depends on how you built the list.

Peter how would I go around split testing a list.

If we take your 10.000 subscribers as an example.

Is there an option in aweber for sending out emails to batches of subscribers as you talk about?

Like can aweber split the mailings up to different batches of your subscribers

Please understand that I won't reveal any specifics.

However, I'll give you a valuable general tip...

The best lists you can build are buyers lists... Right from the BEGINNING!

Let me give you an example what I did:

To enter a very profitable niche, I created (outsourced) a product and sold it for $1!

After AGGRESSIVELY promoting my site, I got a little bit more than 2,300 list members (BUYERS).

And I sold lots of mid to high priced affiliate products to this list.

    I hope this helps.

    depends on 3 factors :

    How responsive your list is
How good your relationship is with them and how much they trust you
Your email OPEN rates and the subject lines you use.

Just copy some GURU's subject line, they usually test the subjects on 1000's of subscribers and if you recieve the same subject line twice from different or even the same gurus you can be sure that they have got favorable results. Just swipe it and use it :)

a great list converts at 10%

    a crappy list at 0.000000001%

and peter2002 comment is right on the money.

if you build a list about "how to get the newest movies for free" you`ll never make a sale.
    these are freebee hunters

but a list about "what supplements to really use to build muscle" has bigger potention.
if you review the products properly and people get to trust you, they`ll buy

and if you can sell them a cheap guide on the subject to get them on the list, youre golden.
the list will be much smaller, but will convert infinitly better.
why have windowshopper on your list? they just cost money. why pay for servers and bandwith or a subscription to have people on your list that wont buy from you anyway.
yeah its great to have a big list, but if you can`t sell anything, why bother?

and a good list will convert with just about any subject line. so if you have a decent size list and no conversions, the problem isn`t your subject line or copy.

split testing is used to increase conversions, not to create them. if it doesn`t convert now, it also won`t convert after split testing. (unless offcourse you are sending out unreadable spamstyle messages at the moment, which i asume you`re not)

also after people sign up, don`t send them to a thank you page, but staight to a suitable affiliate product. ( unless you have a good back end offer in place at the thank you page allready)

always try to sell stuf every chance you get. as long as you provide quality offers people will apriciate it,

and the people that don`t appriciate it and unsubscribe are useless anyway, those people are looking for free stuff. so don`t worry about them unsubscribing, they won`t make you money in the long run.
maybe a rogue sale now and then, but you still are paying for them to be on your list every month, so the profit on them is marginal, if any.

but always try to softsell and be honest. overhyped messages are a nono and won`t build trust.
