Think about your question and the variety of things mentioned here. Do you think it's possible to answer such a broad question accurately? Why not just ask, "How long is a piece of string?"

There are varying shades to what is blackhat. Most things aren't illegal (although some obviously are ie. fraud). The bigger question most people deal with is what fits your personal ethics. I know there are some tactics that some people embrace that other people are not comfortable with.

Depends entirely on which method. Yes, and No.
Grey area, legal and illegal.

Nothing is illegal. :

Just don't get caught.

It all depends on what you doing, where you are at the time and if you get caught. Lots of people can spend there life doing BlackHat activities and will never get into trouble, others may do it for a week and get caught out.

Use your Brain and you wont ever need to worry about it.

Yes, everything blackhat is 100% illegal. The FBI and CIA will raid your home simultaneously while you watch in horror as they confiscate your computer, steal your internets, and molest your sofa.

Don't say nobody warned you.

Most Blackhat methods isn't illegal per say, there just against the TOS of whatever company.

Blackhat: Tricking the system to create positive results
Illegal: CC fraud etc

It depends on what you are doing, most won't be illegal, but might be unlawful.

its not illegal if you dont get caught *wink* in the serious scenario, it depends how much of a trouble you can get yourself into , dublicating content or stealing it is illegal but can you get in serious trouble?(less likely) using a brandname in a domain is illegal and can you get in serious trouble? yes you can-just some examples.

I think most of the blackhat methods are unethical but some may also be illegal. So, it varies from method to method.

The best answer to the OP is the old story about the creative tycoon who was hiring a new accountant.

He asked the first applicant, "what's 2 + 2?" He answered, "four," and was not hired, because he had no imagination.

He asked the second applicant, "what's 2 + 2?" He answered, "five," and was not hired, because he couldn't add.

Then he asked the third applicant, "what's 2 + 2?" The applicant answered, "What do you want it to be?" He got hired on the spot.

Be creative. Your resourcefulness will inevitably be categoried as "illegal" or unfair, by those who lack creativity.
