    Hey guys

I am planning to move to Turkey coming November.
Just wondering how much money should I have before moving.
The total monthly cost of living is 1500 usd which includes everything such as rent, food, bills, shopping etc (not talking abt istanbul)

Considering this, is 50,000 usd enough ? (family of 3 - Mom, wife and me)

Well, I've heard as a rule of thumb you'll want to essentially have enough saved to pay rent, food, shopping, etc, etc for about 6 months in case you don't find any jobs right away or in case medical issues pop up. But you should be careful about draining ALL your savings as well. It's better to save up more than you need than to run out of money because of some unforeseen issue once you move.

Just be sure your cost of living estimates are accurate.

Best of luck in the move!

Depends on where he's moving from, I suppose. And for what it's worth, Turkey is now part of the EU... so it can't be that crazy there.

Turkey's not part of the EU, Turkey's in grave conflict over the refugee crysis with the EU lol :) (source: I'm in the EU)

@op true it's a nice and cheap country but it seems like things could go left at any moment with Erdogan`s recent action.

It isn't part of the EU. For some good reasons :)

@USA282 where are you currently living? I would never consider moving there because Erdogan is such an unpredictable and rules like a dictator. But it's your decision.

They got some conflicts the last day with Austria because Austria's strict against them joining the EU, maybe something you read was ambiguous there :)

Coming back to the question, I suppose 50K is enough :)

With 50k you could live quite everywhere if you plan to start working there or still have an income source with IM :)

What's your source of income, job or IM?
Do you have a job lined up, will your wife work and does she have a job lined up?

If your outgoings are 1,500 per month and you have 50,000 saved, you have at least one year of savings behind you, so basically, if you're outgoing remain the same, you can live on your savings for over one year.

Keep enough for a flight outta there just in case and I would say your good.

Obviously, more is always better and you can never have enough, but considering where your going seems cheap (1.5k/month covers everything) I think you're good to go.

    Good luck!

I would move to Hungary or Slovenia instead of Turkey. But that's your decision ... oh and I am quite happy in the UK even though the cost of living is very high.

I don't have a job :) IM is my primary source of income :)
that 50K however includes everything from flights to paperwork etc :p . But I guess, after all these extra expenses I will be left with atleast 42K which should be enough :)

My advice then is to save enough to be able to move BACK again just in case you don't like it there. Always have a fallback plan.

If you can live there on $1500 a month and you have $50k, then do it.

Thailand is another cheap place to live, if you want further afield.
We live in Spain and it was in the 30s today, nice and sunny.

    ...who take my advice
I'm a Turkish guy living in the US.
I wouldn't recommend moving there as erdogan is really unpredictable.
Also, Turkish people are generally racist against non whites(I'm assuming you're from South Asia judging by your name) so get used to that.

One more thing, you probably won't find any jobs since all the Syrian refugees are now legally permitted to get jobs so they'll probably work for dirt cheap.

Oh yeah, and there are many websites that are banned in turkey. And because of erdogan's unpredictability even more could be banned. He already banned YouTube and twitter before. Porn sites are also banned. And I think Reddit is banned as well. And the list goes on... so if you use these sites to make money I'd recommend a vpn service that isn't banned in Turkey
Really, any website where people criticise him gets banned.

Although I wouldn't recommend it... good luck with your journey

Edit: also, you can live for much cheaper than 1500 a month. The Turkish lira has turned to shit so that's around ~5500 Turkish liras. That amount of money is more than enough to live comfortably
